Help me Aquascape my 5g Scarlet Badis Tank

Here are some pictures of my tank right now. I wasn't going to use driftwood but I wanted to add a bit more height and contrast to my tank. The Marselia Quadrifolia carpet has been growing like crazy but I want to clean it up somehow. One of my favorite color combinations is red and white. I'm...

    New User, new tank

Everyone I am having a 225 gallon tank built and have ideas on the interior. Fresh water, cichlids - angels, discus - along with other "community" fish. My idea is to have a cutaway mangrove root along a side of the tank, roots extending mostly downwards and bit to the sides. The...

180g tank, anybody know the EXACT dimensions?

Anybody know the EXACT dimensions of a 180g (perfecto or aga/aqueon, not drilled)...? Yes, I know that they say the dimensions are 72"x24"x24", but that's not what the dimensions actually are. Anybody who has a Perfecto or AGA/Aqueon 180g, can you measure the tank from me (the plastic rims...

    Lighting for a planted tank

Decided to try some plants in my 20L and need some help on lighting. I did some research and need help picking how many watts. I can get a fixture with 2x24watt bulbs or 4x24watt bulbs. My concerns are that the 2x24watts is to little and the 4x24watts are to much for the 20L. Thoughts?

My first attempt at a Walstad tank

This is my first attempt at a Walstad tank. Well actually my second my first attempt went h0\horribly wrong at the start as forgot how light SMS is when its dry. The soil floated to the top through the SMS. Being that the tank is only 2.5 gallons I just threw the dirt and SMS out the back...

Well, it is about time to set this tank up...

Okay, I am starting with a modest 55 gallon here, and I am broadening my limited knowledge with some equipment that is new to me but that I now own. I'm OLD SKOOL, yo! So, I think I will bury my newfound comrades of the Capital Cichlid Association under an avalanche of questions. I was going...

    Best Size Tank Ever!

Ever since I saw these at a fellow member's house last year, I've been all about trying to find them. But custom size = $$$. 48Lx18Wx13H.... basically a short 75. Behold the glory of the 50 long. I'll post up some more pics when I get them set up sometime in the next few weeks...

    My first non-planted tank!

I wanted to try something new -- a low-maintenance tank! My two planted tanks are great, but I was looking for something easy. This is a 40 gallon breeder with black moon sand, rocks, driftwood and lots of silk plants. I stumbled upon a new line called bioorb. They are particularly pretty and...

Which canister would you choose for a 50 gallon tank?

I broke down and am upgrading my cube to a 50 gallon so I can keep my rainbow babies for a while longer! :-) Question about filter. I currently have a Marineland 220 running. It's not quite enough, I don't think. Which of these two would you get instead: Marineland C-360 or Fluval 305??

    Trimming Tank Plastic Trim

A few months ago, I picked up a few of the Aquaclear AC70's that were on sale from Big Al's. I finally got around to swapping out one of the old penguin filters on my 75 with the AC70 and find out that the plastic trim on my tank is too wide to allow the AC70 to slide all the way down below the...

    lighting an african tank

The tank is a 54 corner. I am using a dry african mix substrate (the one that is mostly sea shells). I am having trouble finding lighting that makes the substrate show off its crisp, white color. I tried a 30" twin tube flourescent with 1- 10K and 1- actinic but it was too dim. I tried a 30" T5...

    New Tank Procurement

As some of you know from posts/conversations, when EthanFish and I started our tank, while we knew we wanted cichlids, we hadn't realized that space-wise we could find room for a bigger tank and that we'd want/need a bigger tank. We are looking in the near term to upgrade our 36bow to a 55...
