Have you used that system or can you tell me anything about it?

    Whole fish room heater suggestions?

Instead of a dehumidifier, I have a vent fan hooked to a humidistat so I need the separate heater. Mike and DQ, does the 1500w oscillating heater have a thermostat? (DQ, PRETEND I WROTE MY QUESTION IN CAPS.) :D

    Whole fish room heater suggestions?

My new fish room is coming together. It's 11.5' x 12.5' with a ceiling a little under 8 feet. I'd like to heat the room rather than using tank heaters. What kind of heaters do you recommend?

    Filtering a 180 Reef-Ready

My overflows are rated at 600 gph max and I had them going full, then dialed it back to cut down the noise. I am probably at about 600-900 gph now. There is noise from the water going down the overflows, from where it splashes into the top of the tower and where it drips through the tower...

    Filtering a 180 Reef-Ready

3x turnover per hour (180g x 3 = 540 gph) will most likely give you adequate biofiltration if you construct a good sized bio tower with 5g of bioballs or so. I don't find the need for separate mechanical filtration (canisters or hang ons) as long as the water circulates in the tank to keep mulm...

    Petrochromis Fry

Can you not net them while they sleep? It may take a few nights to catch them napping not in the rocks, but sooner or later they'll sleep or drift in the open. Net them, strip them and back in the tank before they're fully awake. No removal of rocks or decorations necessary.

Sorry, just noticed I didn't answer this question. I think the drawer set is about 30" tall plus the inlet pipe on top. The drawer frames come apart, so you could take off the top one, or buy one in a different configuration, etc. There are lots of types. Just need to shop til you find...

    PVAS auction this weekend?

I used to go years and years ago. The way it worked then was that the items were auctioned off in order. So each seller numbered their own items 1-15 or whatever. If you had more than the 10 or 15 items that made up a seller sheet, you filled out a second sheet. All the 1's were auctioned first...

    Campisi, Charlie 150 points

No big deal. I knew yours were a different variant. I didn't realize that both variants were Zaires which is a fairly LARGE place. :)

Thanks for updating my points Sarah. :) I auctioned some of the julie fry several meetings ago. None were in the auction at this meeting. Was I not first bred on the Zaire golds? Didn't know anyone else had them except the former member I got them from. No comp fry for sale yet. I've had...

My DIY Sump and Wet Dry Filter (reprinted from The Biotope)

I wrote that article a couple years ago. Filter works great. The microfiber pads keep the water crystal clear and the amount of media (it's setup with double towers) is overkill for the tank. I've made some tweaks to quiet it, but it's much better than the Amiracle setup I had before.

    wet dry filtration

I finally managed to pull the article and pictures and start a thread. Sorry it took so long, but I wanted to clear it with Pat since it was written for the Biotope, and then in the meanwhile got really busy at work and had to travel to Florida for a personal matter. At long last, you can see...

The Daisy Chain I wanted a sump capacity of at least 40 gallons for my tank. I liked the 28 gallon container I bought, but needed to connect two of them. This is usually done with bulkheads. Bulkheads can be expensive, but you can make your own. Water needs to flow freely between...

The Outlet The outlet is where your return enters the tank. It should be long enough on the tank side so that it can hang on the tank without danger of falling off. I like to use two 90 degree elbows glued into place to make the “hook” over the tank top. I then glue on a very short...

My DIY Sump and Wet Dry Filter (reprinted from The Biotope)

The Return Line Your return lines will need to be tailored to your pump size. I recommend getting a pump slightly larger than you need for several reasons. First, you will lose some pressure as the water is pumped uphill into the tank – called “head loss.” There will be additional...
