simple and effective way to raise fry.

Restaurants or sub shops would probably be the best place for freebies, otherwise any suitable-sized glass jar or vase would work. Wal-Mart or a craft store would likely have something usable.

simple and effective way to raise fry.

I saw the same thing (w/out the video) on an angelfish forum several years ago.

    FS 1200 gallon - 10' x 3' x 5' w/stand

How much poret would it take to filter that tank though?

    Archocentrus centrarchus 2.0

Nice clutch of eggs, don't blend very well with the wood though. I found the same thing earlier today in the 45 when I took it apart to net out a young pair of cutteri. A pair of Gymnogeophagus norte have a clutch on a piece of mopani wood. This is the 3rd spawn of the norte's (4 pairs) in the...

    FS 1200 gallon - 10' x 3' x 5' w/stand

Over $30,000 less than the original price, what a deal! Even if I had somewhere to set it up I doubt I'd be able to afford to stock it after the divorce. Not even a new diamond ring would let that one slip past...

OK, what are you bringing in JUNE

I have a couple extra young male cutteri and a young pair tending their first spawn of free-swimming fry available, can bring to the meeting Saturday.

OK, what are you bringing in JUNE

I'll bring a few brown BN, always an abundance of those around, may bring along a red male too. I have close to 200 1" cutteri fry if anyone is interested in some.

Why should you go out and buy the July, 2010 issue of TFH?

Ya, I renewed my $1 digital subscription then too. I'll happily give them a buck, but I don't care for the publication enough to pay for a regular subscription.

    Da One and Only

This one has a round head like Charlie Brown with a skinny little body/tail behind. The belly isn't as plump as it was when I found the wee bugger. I hope it finds enough to eat in the 38. I could put it into a net breeder for a while if necessary.

    Da One and Only

I also have a group of petricola and lucipinnis (think there are actually both) in another tank. I've been growing them out for several years hoping for fry, but nothing yet. Maybe swapping the fluval for an eheim canister will help. I've read that several folks have found petricola fry growing...

    Da One and Only

The wee bugger doesn't bother to hide now that he's in the 38, or move much either apparently. I found him in the same area tonight that he was in when I snapped this pic early this afternoon: I'd estimate the size at around 1 cm. The BN fry are larger than that, and they still have a bit of...

    Da One and Only

I was feeding last night (actually almost 4 a.m. this morning) when I noticed a wee black fry in the 75 with the eureka red peacocks and Synodontis multi's. My first thought was "the BN aren't large enough to spawn yet ) Looking closer, I saw that it was actually a tiny Syno fry. So...

    L333 & L270

I'm no expert on breeding catfish, or anything else for that matter, just another fish fool who likes cute baby fish. My latest success (?) has been the super red BN from Germany. The first unexpected spawn was in a 75 gallon growout tank full of oblongums that I only managed to save 1 red fry...

    L333 & L270

Congrats on the long-awaited event, there's still hope after all. Geeze, 2-3 years for WC adults to spawn, I don't feel so bad about my F1's that I got back in '08 as young juvies. Maybe sometime this year... What type and size of cave did they choose?

    Sponge Filter Noob Question

I prefer the hydrosponges too, recently replaced a couple of the sponges with the new open-cell foam and upgraded a IV to a V in a 29. I use a large dual-outlet whisper air pump on a 2, and Tetra deep-water air pumps or aquaclear 30 powerheads on the others. I've found that the best way to clean...

    Synos and Fish (not) Breeding

I've heard/read that frontosa will actually stop spawning if Synodontis multi's come to the party, but most species aren't bothered by their presence unless they've lost multiple spawns to the catfish fry. I keep a group of multi's and a single eupterus in a 75 with peacocks, and haven't seen...

    Auction Cats

I had a few of those many, many years ago. Very peaceful little catfish, liked to hang out under cover (relatively speaking) among the hornwort in their tank. They ate bloodworms, but I don't recall them paying any attention to flakes. Didn't have NLS pellets back then... I did see a couple...
