    Ancistrus spawn?

My breeding group came from Germany, $50 apiece for ~1.5" juvies. The first spawn were all super red fry, but I'm not certain yet whether the female in this round was a red or a brown. Since the new spawn is small I think it's fairly likely they're pure reds again. I have 7 of the super reds and...

    Ancistrus spawn?

Here's a few pics of the parents, and the single fry from the first spawn. They remind me somewhat of rosy red minnows, more orange than red like the L-10a. They color intensifies as they grow, this juvie among the NLS pellets is about 1": The new batch are still wigglers, piled...

    Ancistrus spawn?

I now have the second spawn of super red BN hatched, looks like around 40 wigglers. The first spawn happened in the 75 with several dozen juvie oblongum's. I was only able to save 1 fry from that spawn, but the breeders are now in a different tank. Any chance I'm the first in the US to spawn...

    October meeting

I could use a few adult female ruby greens. Between them and the P. nyererei the only ones that survived were males. Apparently too many males of both species for the females to compete/live with? The single male ruby green I still have seems to mix well enough with 1m/4f A. latisfasciata...

    October meeting

I've never kept Oto's myself, but I've seen countless posts on several different forums about the buggers dying off for no apparent reason. The only folks who seem to have any success keeping them have large, well-established planted tanks. A BN will clean up the diatoms that inevitably pop up...

    October meeting

Oto's do best in established tanks, I wouldn't put them in a new setup. BN pleco's are a bit hardier in general.

    October meeting

I plan on bringing a couple of male P. nyererei, maybe a male nicholsi as well. Here's a couple of losy pics, fish actually look better than these:

    New Feature : Real Names

Well you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, or you can call me ronnie, or you can call me jonnie... but don't call me too late for dinner. ;)

What are you bringing to the September meeting of the CCA

Surprisingly (to me, anyway) the P. nicholsi male seems to be an even match both is size and temprament for them. I would have thought a river Hap would be a bit milder, more like the ruby greens.

What are you bringing to the September meeting of the CCA

I have a couple spare male P. nyererei, here's a pic of the dominant male:

    Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi

I got 2m/3f from Julie a while back, lost all 3 of the females w/out any spawns, and swapped off the extra male. Even in a 55 2 males didn't have enough space to coexist. The remaining male goes quite well with my male P. nyererei and chanchito pair in a 75.

    Got some new plecos

Patience is a definite necessity with Hypancistrus juvies. I've had a group of L333's for over a year, and it will probably be about one more before they'll be mature enough to spawn. On the good side though, tank-bred fish are healthier in general since they've never been exposed to parasites...

What are you brining to the June Mini-auction

I wasn't able to wiggle out of working tomorrow, so I won't be around until after the summer break. :(

    May CCA Meeting

I thoroughly enjoyed Ad's presentation on the peacocks. Made me wish I had tankspace available for some of the beauties in the auction. Maybe by the time fry are turning up in the meeting auctions I'll have room for some.

What are you bringing for the May mini-auction?

I meant I'm bringing Endlers and duckweed, I'd expect the ransom of redchief to be much higher than that...

What are you bringing for the May mini-auction?

If you're really smart you'll promise them a treat if they're such a pain for the buyer that you get paid to take them back as well... I'm thinking probably a bag of Endler's and a cup of duckweed.

Today in Sonny's Fishroom: Cool Cats

I suspected it was a wild-caught canal pleco, having heard about the variety of introduced species to be found in Florida. Hook and line or net?

Today in Sonny's Fishroom: Cool Cats

What am I missing here? Don't just about all common pleco's come from Florida fish farms? Great looking bullhead.

    Lophiobagrus

Not a terrible pic, just an unwilling subject. I love catfish (almost as much as cichlids) but don't care as much for the strictly nocturnal species. If they'll at least come out for food it's not so bad.

    Hello From Colorado

I worked in Front Royal for a few years until Avtex closed down. Lived in Winchester at the time, and as far as I know there's still only one worthwhile pet shop there.
