    Cca Cichlid & Catfish Show

Good luck all. I have family in this weekend and will miss the show. :sad0017: Bring home lots of awards. I may drop in to the auction Sunday for a bit. Looking forward to hearing all the stories. Take lots of pics please.

    Aquafest2007 Auction

One other hint - take a mail order catalog if you have one. You may not be in the market for a large canister filter or metal halide canopy, but one may show up on the auction table. They usually will go for a fraction of the cost of retail, but it helps to be able to look up the pricing. I...

    Hello From Calvert County, Md

Welcome Jeff! You've tapped into a fantastic network of very knowledgeable and well connected cichlid keepers. Some of them are even nice. :FIREdevil:

Repost them and we'll be good to go. Just no more talk of DNS, backup servers and gobbledegook. :confused0024:

I won't even pretend to understand that. But thanks for getting it back up.

No kidding. I had to get my fix elsewhere. I feel like I cheated.

    A General Fish Discussion Section?

I hope it's not keeping you from starting a thread. Put it where it fits best and it'll get moved if necessary. Pick the cichlid forum where it best belongs or the non-cichlid forum. The forum members here are tight enough that if someone has an opinion, they'll see it and reply.

    Featherfins Holding

Net them at night with a flashlight. My featherfins typically sleep out in the open.

Must ... resist ... inappropriate ... comment ... :D That's too bad Mike. Good luck with the next batch. I'm hopefully going to strip one of my cyps tonight. Mike's loss is pushing me. I've got the lights off, but I'm watching tv in the room near the tank so I don't think they're asleep...

    Featherfins Holding

I guess then you could just wait a couple weeks and net her while she's sleeping so you don't have to break the tank down. I've always had to strip because I've never had enough tanks to remove the mothers to. I never bothered with egg tumblers though, so just waited til the fish were held for...

    Featherfins Holding

Mike, if you haven't already done some research on breeding featherfins, you should look into stripping. I seem to remember reading a lot of stories of them not holding to term. It's been a week already, so that's a good sign. 2 weeks to go!

Gotcha. Robert might be able to chime in since he bred both his wilds and their offspring.

    Featherfins Holding

With cyathopharynx, it's not a put down. Many fish are described as being to turn their colors on and off like a light switch, but for these guys it's to the extreme. What's more, they are 99% off. Especially if they see you near the tank. It's why they've always been an obsession for me...

    Featherfins Holding

Speaking of sifter fans, Ms. Moderator, what's the deal with sifters being characterized as "Tanganyikan Oddities" on the CF proiles? That needs to be changed to Sanddwellers or something more descriptive. Haven't you people heard of PC? :angry3: :tongue0011:

Any chance you can get him flaring in the bower? These fish turn on and off like a light switch. And they usually switch to "off" when they see you approach the tank. You have such a short window to get them looking good. I guess that's part of what drives the obsession. When mine finally...

    Featherfins Holding

Interesting you say that. I have at least three males in my group. My tank has two sandbeds separated by a large rockpile that is flat-ish on top. The most dominant male has the sandbed to the left. The third male has the sandbed to the right and the second male (though he is the biggest)...

September Meeting Of The Capital Cichlid Association

It was a fantastic meeting. The specialization of cichlids and their jaws has been the subject of much well-publicized discussion in the cichlid community, e.g., Jewel of the Rift. But I've never seen it presented quite like yesterday. What stuck with me most was the Sc. fryeri. One of my...
