What Do You Do?

What do you guys do for a living?

I'll start, be sure to add what you do to this thread.

I work for Phoenix Fire Protection in Upper Marlboro, MD. Our company does commercial fire sprinkler systems. Look up they may be in your building (or home). I design the systems. I spend a lot of time on the road driving to jobsites and Fire Marshal's Offices (for permits). When I am at the office this is where I "live". Pat, does that 125 gallon tank look familiar? I hope to have fish in it next week.

Nice exposure on the room. You need framed pictures on the wall. Nothing less than 16 x 20; hopefully all yours.

Thanks Francine, I am trying to get a couple of shots together for that very reason. I was only going 8"x10", hadn't thought about going that large (might try it out).

I am a dispatcher at a Buick Pontiac dealer. Basically I am the one that makes sure the work gets to the Techs and that it gets done. Daily thats about 60-70 cars that come across my desk. No the cars are not in my office Mike. The paper work does. I also finish billing out the paperwork for them when they are finished.
I have no pictures here. I will get some off my work computer next week.
Been there 6 years. I have this 7 year problem. 3 other jobs have lasted 7 years. Getting close on this one too.

Ahhhh....so you are the one who says "I know your car was here for an oil change and was supposed to be done today, BUT your frequency modulator is discombobulated and it caused your tires to go out of balance which broke a valve and put that big scratch in the paint, SO we need to keep it until next Friday, AND it is going to cost $2100 instead of the $24.99 we quoted you earlier"

Or something like that!!

Just messin' with you, had a couple of friends who worked for Dodge dealers, I know all about the problems you deal with everyday.

Actually, I have one of the best jobs at the dealer.
The service writers talk with the customers so I don't have to. I just try to figure out how to get everything done each day and which tech can make it happen, while keeping an eye on profits and making sure to be fair when handing work out so that all the techs can make a living and feed their families. Nothing to it.

It sounds like he is the guy that makes sure all the techs make a fair living. Hmmmm, wonder how much he makes under the table... :FIREdevil:

I'm a peddler. A distributor sales rep in the outdoor sporting goods industry. I sell over 170,000 skus. Just about every major manufacturer of hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, electronics, and marine supplies you can name (don't test me, please). My territory is central and northern Maryland. I call on independents and chain stores.

I'm usually very reluctant to tell strangers what I do. Just about everyone I meet, or a family member of thiers fish, hunt, shoot, has a boat, or camps out when I tell them what I do.

Before anyone gets any ideas for a favor, 'it is against my company's policy to sell to individuals. Only legitimate licensed retail dealers with a brick and mortar store front'. So Mike, don't even waste your time bud.

Just to give you an example. I was photographing a proprety last month. When I was done, the homeowners, realator and myself were chatting in the kitchen over iced tea. The question came up, "is this all you do Bobby." Before I even finished explaing my regular job, the homeowner asked me if I could get him a string for his longbow. It never fails friends.

Hey, I haven't asked yet (I was saving up for a big ticket item) and I already knew what you did. :D

Ohhh now this is a fun thread!!

OK, well, I am a stock trader for Rydex Investments in Rockville. It is my dream job but man oh man is it stressfull! Here are a couple of shots of my trading desk; one with the blank screens and one with all of the charts and graphs I use everyday to try to beat the markets! There are 4 other traders with me (two equity traders who trade shares of companies like Google and Apple, a derivatives trader who trades futures contract and then a junior trader). We also have 4 different portfolio managers who come over at different times during the day to have us make trades to rebalance their portfolios and to also make bets as to where the market is going to go.

The trading desk where I sit has 8 more trading terminals like mine and then random monitors scattered around the place to display, you guessed it!, more charts! My boss is trying to get a 4th monitor for each of us, but if that works out I'll have to go back to my "eye exercises" where I stare at the window for a minute blinking so as to uncross and unstrain my eyes! We also have a nice big flat panel tv above us which is tuned into CNBC or Bloomberg daily.

So it's a great gig and I love it! I've always wanted to be a trader and am working to move myself up higher on the trading food chain! I'll tell ya, though, when tensions run high, the language used is awful! Our marketing department is right next to us and apparently a lot of the people there get startled, jump in their chairs and cover their ears when my boss starts cussing a broker out over the phone!

The images are blurry because I uploaded them from my camera phone. And yes, in the left coner behind my phone is my 5-years in the making giant rubber band ball!! And to the right is a Jaromir Jagr bobble head

Well at least it is Jagr as a Cap! I can't stand looking at 1 monitor too long, let alone 3 or 4. Of course I used to have a TV wall with 6 units (and 2 of those had picture in picture). That was back when I was really into football (gambling on football)!

Always nice to work at your dream job. I always wanted to be a bilingual, nudist, space shuttle pilot (but I couldn't learn the 2nd language).

Hahhahahhah! I just keep picturing the shuttle getting ready for take off and they're all sitting there in their gear and you pan away to notice that someoneisn't wearing their space suit! :smashfreakB:

Okay, this is where I work. Nothing fancy but a good place to work.

And I love to do this to a car and then let a tech put it back together. Makes the day go quicker.

I am classified as an Exhibit Specialist. We do graphics, brochures, 3D interperative and interactive, temporary and permanent exhibits for the entire Mont Co side of the organization. Right now we are preparing for the Montgomery County Fair. Oh yeah, I take pictures, too.

This is my area. From the chair to my left.

Fom the chair directly in front.

From the chair to the right. I stop there because of the stack of crap that's piled up.

The last view is what you see when you stand in the opening and look down at me working...
