What did you do to your tank(s) today?

In the 30g thats just some trimings from my amazon swords and I am using root tabs under the pfs. In the 72g I have got eco-complete, my lighting is 214 watts but I only use 2 of the bulbs instead of 4 I use root tabs and florish. I also have my co2 setup but the growth is fast I don't use it. The apongetons on the left and right ends get so long they block out the light. No algae or bba whoopy!

Nice job! Is bba the only algae you're afraid of? LOL! Which roots tabs are you using? I may have a couple of plants for you to try that won't require much trimming.

Thanks! For a low tech SW tank, which mine is, what you need is good amount of Live Rocks. After that, everything else is pretty much the same as a FW set up. Right now, my SW tank requires the least amount of maintenance, but at the same time, I only have 4 fish in a 36G tank.
Live rock is kinda 'spensive, though... no? Every where I see it, anyway! LOL...

It's a new day! Welcome to geek town. What's your fishy-geek day like? Slacking off, going forward? I have to ask. Gonna update mine...with pics. Woo hoo.

Embrace your geekness. What did you do to your tank(s) today? What do you plan to do? What have you done since last we talked?

I replaced the messy combo gravel/sand substrate in my 55 with PFS Sunday morning. Took about 3 hours and much cursing trying to catch the fish to move them into buckets.

Also then washed the sand and gravel I had removed and put it in bags for future use.

Since I did it early Sunday morning, I did not have any beer while doing this.

I try not to feed my fish at least one day per week. New fry excepted :)

I did some water changes...and received a shipment of Geo. Red Head Tapajos from Georgia...

Some fry that I have growing out:
- Amatitlania nigrofasciatus "Rio Choluteca" (Pretty black and red con from Honduras)
- A. sp "Honduran Red Point" (Rio Danli) - the real blue HRP
- A. siquia "Grenada, Nicaragua"
- A. siquia "Lago Nicaragua"
- Cryptoheros cutteri "RioJutiapa" (pure line from Ken Davis)
- Heros efasciatus "Peru" (F1 green sevs from my wild pairs)
- Blue green goodieds
- Hericthys tamosapensis (sp?) - fry from ACA convention
- Hericthys bartoni

Probably forgetting some!

Nothing. Actually, didn't even feed them yesterday. I'm sure they'll be pretty hungry today! LOL...

The ceibals are showing some really nice color... tank currently at 72 degrees.

Anyone have any ideas about how to keep pothos partially submerged in a tank (maybe stick it in a piece of floating styro)? I added some to a couple of tanks...

From this site, it sounds like you can just affix some cuttings or stems to the tank glass and the roots will take care of themselves. Maybe "affix" could be to just bunch some stems together, fasten on a suction cup, and attach them wherever you want.

"I generally use hydroculture pots filled with clay pebbles that I attach to a side glass of the aquarium. For epiphytes like golden pothos (Epipremnum pinnatum) you don’t even need a pot. You can just attach the stem to a side glass and let the roots float in water. The roots will soon find their way down to the bottom."

I use planter cups from ripariumsupply.com, fill them with substrate of your choice, add a root tab every few months. I have several that have been growing for years now, one of them is over 20 feet long.

What did I do today? I "rescued" a clipping of ivy that was dying inside my local Ace and planted it in a planter cup, put it in my 75g. Dosed tanks. Sifted 40lbs of mineralized top soil I had in buckets left over from previous planted tanks, preparing for a 75 gallon I'm setting up in the next few weeks. Went thru all my fish "stuff" and decided to sell some 10g set ups. Bout it....

Awesome link, Ruth. That guy has some really cool tanks.

Not sure how that would work... They tend to just fall in (unless they're wedged somewhere)...

I'd say just hang them in the tank and close the glass lid on the stem - use the plastic strip to hold it down so it doesn't pinch the plant. Does that work? I been meaning to get some to hang into the overflow chambers of my 180.

Nitrate reduction, baby! Gotta get me some.

Wed night, just fed some of the fish. Not all.
Treated those angels again for fungus.

No other fish activities last night. Shame on me. LOL
did work on club stuff but not fish stuff.

Fed fry and the rest of the room when I got home. Reorganized all my breeder baskets last week, so it's become a lot more streamlined. BTW, did you know that 6 breeder nets fit perfectly into a 15?

Everything in the basement is completely dry, so we put the carpet back in place and the furniture away. Finally gave the 180 Africans light again after being out since last Thursday. Fed them a good bit and changed out about 100 gallons. Cleaned turtle's tank.

Stared at the Africans as well as the eartheaters and featherfins for a while while watching Survivor. Really happy with how the three big tanks in the den are coming along.

Maybe I missed it, but I have not seen any pics of your geo set-up.

Moved some more fish from home to school yesterday. Amongst them was a badly damaged female JD. Apparantly a pair formed overnight and turned on the extra female. Looks like she is not going to make it. :(
