Check out my avatar picture. That's a Aqua Clear 70 intake with a AC20 sponge slipped over the intake. It's great for keeping any fry from beeing sucked in and keeping sand also from damaging the propeller. Very inexpensive and easy to make ;)

They get to 5 to 5.5in. The group that im bringing are 4-5in. they are offsprings of the one in my avatar.

I suggested doing two water changes in the same week to get most of the water out and more fresh water into the tank quicker. Then weekly water changes is fine. Hope it works out and carbon willalso help with the smell. I also dont keep carbon in my filters but keep it on hand incase I need it.

Like Bill said they are Maylandia hajomaylandi, you may also find them as Metriaclima Hajomaylandi as the name has changed so you may find info under both names. I got my group back in 2009. They are not a comon fish but with a little searching you may find some. Im in New Jersey and will be...

+1 Water changes is the best thing and if after two 50% water changes in the same week 4 days apart doesn't do it, add carbon and keep up with water changes.

Yup, I make my own using the Aqua Clear 20/mini foam. It cost about 3 dollars for a 3-pack replacement foam. I cut out the center of the foam just enough that it fits snug around the intake tube.Here is a picture of it.
