What's Breeding?

Fry from both varieties of Uruguayan Cichlasoma (sp. "Zanja Honda" and sp. "La Palma") are still doing great!

There's a tank of Central American fry (A. septemfasciata "Rio San Juan, Costa Rica") next to them and it's amazing how much larger and faster growing the Central fry are than the acaras...but I think both are over the hump.

A surprising new spawn (saw a cloud a free swimmers) and likely the first time in the hobby: Australoheros scitulus "Gajo Tacuarembo Chico" - a really nice Chanchito from Uruguay. They spawned in a flowerpot and are guarding a couple of hundred fry from the third wheel in their tank.

I really think that the sustained warmth in the garage fishroom has made a big difference, especially for the Uruguayan fish. I've had lots of spawns that I haven't in the (prior) garage fishroom, I think because of the temperature difference between winter and summer.

I pulled about 12 Corydoras parallelus eggs yesterday. Only indirectly related to the hot weather: the a/c duct points more-or-less at their tank. This isn't the first time they've spawned, but the first time I feel that I have the water right. The other two spawns produced no fry. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Great work. I see that there are no spawning reports for this fish on PlanetCatfish.com.

Edit: no spawning reports, but one keeper does mention spawning them in his description. Still, it's a rarity.

Beca I also am someone who really likes starlight plecoes. If I can get these BN to grow and breed I would like to buy a helf dozen of your babies and give them a try.

This last batch got eaten before hatching, but I'm hoping they'll get it right again soon.
