In addition to the "Name the Species" award;

A "Whose The Daddy" contest will be initiated.

a) Pics of all potential 'daddies' will be posted (good pics!!!!)

b) As the fry develop y'all will be able to try your hands (and eyes) at phenotype trait marking. The winner will be announced
after enough development has occurred to make these comparisons valid.

c) The winner will be determined at the sole discretion of the owner (me) or via a poll. The prize will be a fish that is on the
current ACA C.A.R.E.S. list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notes Of Importance:

The following persons are forbidden from the contest (or even dreaming about it):
- JustRon
- Longstocking
- DC

Promise pics - but give me a day or two - bit of flu is slowing me down.

Francine's guess is supposed to be wrong - but with stuff getting reclassified/named (even as we speak) ya never know. I'll check again.

Gee George, figures you'd want - oh well, never mind - Cichlasoma pusillum can't be right, but flu is better so male pics will be forthcoming no later then Sat am.

BTW: Y'all got the best hint and apparently missed it !! - or maybe your Spanish/Portugese is a little rusty.

Nope, mine is the same as it's always been: el goose-egg-o

No wonder I can't keep up with all the Latin names, if I need Spanish Portuguese as well! :smashfreakB:

What the hint from JustRon? Do actually know the name of the fish or not? I don't mind being wrong...usually is the case...

I'm going by the visuals supplied by this site: http://atlas.drpez.org/Cichlasoma-pusillum-fotos

I'm looking at the inverted suborbital triangle, the black edging on the scales, and the spot high on the caudual peduncal as displayed on your fish:

These fish have similar markings. According to this site.

However, on Vinny's site the fish pictured is not displaying the triangular suborbital spot, but there is a marking there. Furher the scales are lined with black, and the spot is high on the cadual peduncal. Vinny says this fish is Cichlasoma pussillum. Fish was caught at Villa Constitucion, Salto Grande, Uruguay.

The bottom one looks a lot like Cichlasoma boliviense....but it's really hard to tell all of the black acaras apart (especially from pictures of fish in hands :)

So, I'm on the fouline for the Wizards, no time left on the clock, score tied at 78-78 ...I can win the game by making this free throw. I know I can.... So I take a deep breath and shoot... Cichlasoma orinocense

JustRon said does the Rio Parana help? I'm not sure.... But he would know.......

And I'm not really sure of the name of the fish.... every time I google the name, I come up blank...... Of course, it doesn't help that dad keeps getting the name mixed up. Every time I ask dad, "what did you say their name was again?" I get some mangled latin. Which just happens to be different from the last time I asked..... And asking him to WRITE it down is like impossible....... However, I THINK these are wild (due to dad and his .... forgetfullness? or was it mine? I'm not possitive). So dad will have to be the final arbitrator on who wins.....
