Input About A Mbuna Tank

He said peacocks would be fine with my two other choices. I will look at species profiles now.

I think that will be a good mix for your tank. I would add the Afra before the Elongatus Chailosi. I think peacocks really can be added at any time, although I would try to get them a little larger than the mbuna.

I would look for a species with at least some yellow/orange to give a little color variety. I would probably stay away from the jacobfreibergi due to their large size and the hybrids(OB, dragonbloods, etc.) due to their unpredictable level of aggression.

I talked to Dave and chose Cynotilapia zebroides Nkhata Bay "Yellow Blaze", Metriaclima sp. "Elongatus Chailosi" Chitande, and Metriaclima Estherae.

Zack i dont think two ac110s will be enough filtrartion for an overstocked 125g i would go with two fx5s and two sponge filters especially since you will need to overstock to keep down agresion.

A sponge filter and a pre-filter on the intake of your canister filter are two different things. Many folks use pre-filters on their canisters to cut down on the amount of gunk that that gets into the canister, thus keeping the filter "cleaner" and increasing the time between cleanings. A sponge filter is an inexpensive filter that is typically air-driven that acts as its own biological and mechanical filter. You can also run sponge filters with a powerhead instead of air.

I run sponges on most of my tanks. They are easy to clean, offer a quick option for filtration in the case of a power outage via a battery powered air pump, and can be swapped out to start up new tanks/quarantine tanks/hospital tanks.
