Hi folks,
New here, but not new to the hobby. Got my first tank when I was seven (which was 1959) and have kept with the hobby, other than a five year hiatus, since. I currently have four tanks at home; the smallest is a 5g with what is probably the oldest Aphyosemion Striatum female in the world, a 10g with a breeding colony of Galaxy Rasboras, a 55 with three Bahia Red Geos, a couple of adopted blue gouramis and a rescued Syno Decorus who didn't play well with the others in the big tank. The big tank is a 150, with a breeding colony (23) of Tropheus Chilanga, (thanks, Julie!) a breeding pair of Julie Ornatus Yellow, and a heap of rambunctious Synos. I kind of can't keep from buying them.
I also do tanks at the school where I work, and the kids love the fishes. Set up a 55 in the front office, with lots and lots of plants, three fantail goldfish, a pleco somebody couldn't keep, and an ancistrus that would NOT leave her niche in the fake driftwood in the classroom tank in June. :) Just plopped the whole thing in there. Got another tank at school with more Galaxies, and I'm seeding tanks in more classrooms about every week. Did have somebody tell me about the Fruit Tetras she'd bought, and I had to clue her in on that procedure. But the tanks are a wonderful thing for inner city kids.
Blah blah blah......
Anyway, I'm glad to be here!

Welcome aboard!!! Got any pics of the Chilanga? We love seeing pics ;)

If you haven't already been to a CCA meeting you should mark it on the calendar stop by, you'll love it.

DJ!!!!!
Glad you finally made it here. Good group of people, not that far away that you couldn't make a meeting or two a year... etc.. etc.. etc...

Folks, DJ was one of the first people I met in Aquaria Central many years ago in their chat. First person that I met in real life after talking with her online, too! And she's become a big part of my life, so treat her well!

And she's done such great things with the tanks at the school. I've helped a bit by either donating fish, or sending them down pretty darn cheap, and just love hearing about the way the kids learn and react to the tanks.

Welcome DJ!! (pronounced Deej by her close buddies.. :D)

Thanks everybody, for the welcomes, and thanks again to Julie for directing me here. She's been a huge help with fishes and equipment for the school tanks. Our Pre-school Special Ed classroom had a nice 55 with a breeding colony of Yellow Labs (from her), and the kids loved watching those babies!
Leffler, I'm an Instructional Assistant in Special Ed., at Johnson Elementary in Charlottesville. I worked as a chef for 25 years or so, and "retired" to this job. Much lower stress and I have weekends and holidays off. ;) I worked Sp. Ed. Preschool for six years, and this is my third year as an individual assistant for one kid. We're now in second grade.
I'm going to try to take some pics, but I'm a terrible photographer. Maybe the next time my daughter is up this way she could do some; she's very talented with a camera. :)

I'd like to hit a meeting or two, but I need to look at days and places. I'm a little old lady who would about rather have a tooth pulled than face the Beltway, and I leave for work at 6:45 in the morning. (I live in Madison, VA; about halfway between Charlottesville and Culpeper)
Definitely want to attend A.C.A.; the last one I went to was in Atlanta, so it's been a while!
Again, thanks for your greetings.

Welcome to the CCA forum. Hope we can lure you to a club meeting soon. I look forward to your posts. Pictures of the school aquarium would be fun to see. I taught science, health and math in Baltimore City Public schools and have a soft spot in my heart for anyone who can make school relate to 'real life'.
