    Breeding plecos

I was thinking about breeding starlight plecos or blue phantom plecos, my question is would a 20 gallon either high or long work or would I need something bigger?

    L046 Zebra Plecos

So I know that L046 are now illegal to import. Do any of you know anyone in the area selling them? Or anyone in the US other than Aquabid that can get their hands on some? I have wanted some for a long time, and would consider breeding them if I could get my hands on some for less than the...

    Plecos per our last meeting

I am trying to look up information about plecos and their diets. I remember during the presentation at the last meeting it was talked about. Does anyone know a reliable web site I can look up this information? All the pages I have been to have them all listed as omnivores. I have killed off a...

    New plecos

Just picked up some new plecos. The vampire is super black and I love the pattern on the sailfish. I'm not sure what this little one is. He is still really small. The spots are yellow. I was thinking gold nugget but there is no yellow on the fins. Any help on him would be appreciated.

    Plecos can survive so much

About a month ago my male oachita map turtle died. I feel really bad because after he died I checked params and nitrate was 140 ppm. I just got to draining down his tank today. I reach in to get some rocks out and I see a little black shape zip through the water. I dont know what it is or where...

    New Plecos

Since today was black friday I went ahead and bout some fish food and other equipment at congressional. Since I already bought a new guitar and a crap ton of tee shirts I didn't want to walk out with a ton of fish. But unfortunately I happened to spot a 6" blue phantom pleco (L128) and a 3"...

BAP spawn - Longfinned black-eyed plecos

I picked up 3 of these Ancistrus as juvies at the 2012 ACA meeting. Ended up with 2M and 1F. They have phenomenal finnage! Their first spawn is finally on its own in the parents tank and I checked in the spawning cave of the dominant male yesterday and they spawned again! He's already...

    Feeding Plecos

Like many of my CCA friends at the Catfish Convention this past weekend, I was drawn into the world of fancy plecos. I picked up a group of 4 L-066's, all around 1.5". I currently have them in a 10 gallon tank, bare bottomed with a few caves, stones, fake plants, and driftwood pieces. I am a...

    Plecos Interbreeding?

So maybe it's a dumb question, but is it safe to house adult plecos of different genuses together without fear of interbreeding? For example, I have these groups - L134 - Peckoltia compta L052 - Dekeyseria sp. L333 - Hypancistrus sp. Ancistrus sp. (ABN) Right now, I have the first two housed...

    Pool Filter Sand vs. plecos

Alright ya'll for the since starting my tanks I have only put sand in one and it was a nightmare. The stuff was too fine and kept the water cloudy as it wouldnt settle got in the filter and then would work its way back through the coarse sponges of the filters and right back into the water to...

    "Fake Zebra" plecos?

I, like most fans of Plecos, love the looks of Zebra Plecos. But I can't swing the price tag. I've heard there is a "Fake Zebra" pleco that looks very similar, for like 10% of the price. Does anyone know the species name, or L# for that?

Video: Plecos & Gymno "Blue Neon"

Here's a video I shot a couple of weeks ago featuring my LDA33 Baryancictrus "snowball" and L134 Peckoltia "Leopard Frog" plecos munching down on some algae wafers. Towards the end, I pan over to the group of 4 Gymnogeophagus sp. "Blue Neon" I picked up from Jeff Rapps last month. They're...

    Albino vs. Brown BN Plecos

I've noticed that my Albino BN Plecos seem less shy than my Brown ones. The three albinos I have are rarely ever hiding in their tanks and do no flee upon my approach. The three brown ones I have are hardly ever out. If they are out and I get too close to the tank they dart for cover. So I'm...

I know we're a cichlid club, but bristlenose plecos are da bomb!

I recently ordered six (got seven) small long-finned albino BN plecos -- all in an attempt to get a girlfriend for my mature long-finned boy. In the meantime, my fairly newly set up planted African tank was getting brown and green algae and making me crazy. So two of the new guys (less than 2"...

    Keeping common plecos with cichlids

Other than a few discus, some german blue rams, and a lone angelfish in our community tank, my wife and I are newbies to keeping cichlids. My wife has wanted to get a 55g-75g cichlid tank for a while (you know, all those pretty blue and yellow and purple fish :) ), and we may now have an...
