    Eel Food?

I have 2 different Tanganykian spiny eels, they eat NLS 1mm Cichlid pellets along with the rest of the fish. Had a pair of plagiostoma in a 29 for a couple years, fed them frozen bloodworms pretty exclusively. They spawned a number of times, but the male always ate the eggs soon after.

What Victorian species do you keep.

I have yellow rock krib's, currently have a young ones dozen grown out to breeding size available. Males are still showing female colors, but I've seen a couple females holding.

    Breeding severums

I have a large pair of super reds that have never shown any spawning activity at all. They hang out together just fine, not sure what the deal is.

    Experience with air pumps

I've been using Whisper AP 300 dual-outlets for years now. Great pumps for deeper tanks, haven't had any problems with any of them.

looking for oddball for my tank

I have a zebra knife fish, but it would most likely eat the barbs and does tend to stay out-of-sight. What size tank?

    Any super reds??

Sexed adults are $50/each, unsexed juvies ~1.5" are $10/each or $50/6, weather is fine for shipping now. UPS or FedEx Ground will have them there the following day. I really don't trust Priority Mail any longer since they've rerouted and cut back so much. Last (supposedly 1-2 day) shipment of...

I have a few dozen of adults grown out and loads of juvies. You looking for breeding pairs, trios, or a group of juvies to grow out?

What do I feed baby Ancistris sp pupcallpa

Repashy is a gel food. I feed all my pleco fry NLS Grow pellets, Ken's veggie flake, and occasionally french cut canned green beans.

    What's in your filter?

I just put them over the intake strainers of the aquaclears and fluvals. If there are pleco's or catfish in the tank I use a small chunk of sponge to plug the hole in the bottom of the hydro sponge. I've had a couple fish get their spines stick in them and found their corpses when I cleaned the...

    What's in your filter?

I use hydro sponge replacement sponges for prefilters.

    What's in your filter?

I use 2 sponges in my AC 110's, 3 in the AC 70's, and the Eheim canisters are packed with biomedia in the bottom with sponges/blue/white bulk filter pad in the upper baskets. Note, sponges are also biomedia, and they collect debris more effectively than ceramic media or similar materials.

    I got a pair!

I'm not sure about the hybrid theory, but since nobody can trace the common BN back to any wild-caught species it's possible that they're the convicts of the Ancistrus genus. However, it seems to me the calico and super reds are just browns with less brown pigment. Just like dog fur, the colors...

    Feeding to Promote Breeding

I feed all my fish NLS Cichlid or Grow pellets (depending on size) and Ken's premium veggie and spirulina flakes. Occasionally canned green beans and excess duckweed from a couple non-cichlid tanks. Everything but my pair of super red severums have spawned on that diet, I suspect the sev's just...

    I got a pair!

The genes are there, it's just a matter of breeding them and seeing what turns up. I started with a half-dozen regular browns several years ago. Kept a trio in a 30, they produced about 1/3 albino offspring. A few of those grew out here and started spawning. I found brown, albino, calico, and...

    New Plecos

I prefer french cut canned green beans, they sink on their own and there are never any leftovers to clean up the next day. Gold nuggets do require wood in their diet, but also eat meatier foods like frozen bloodworms occasionally. Breeding is much more demanding than bristlenose, they need a...

Ideas for a 75G no brace canopy

I get 3/16" thick glass cut to size and put a regular piece of plastic hinge in the middle. I have hinge and backsplash strip on hand if you need a piece. Plexi will bow/sag IME, lexan is much better but quite a bit more expensive than glass or plexi. A dab of epoxy to cement a drawer pull knob...

Looking suggestion on filters to replace my Aquaclears

Needlenose pliers work fine, both for removing and replacing; the shaft just sits down inside a rubber bushing in the motor housing. Incidentally, all the smaller aquaclears use the same motor and shaft, but the 110/500 is larger. Seems like the shaft wears out much more often than the impeller...

Looking suggestion on filters to replace my Aquaclears

If the impeller well is clean and the impeller or shaft isn't worn down they should restart w/out any problems IME. I do have an air-driven sponge filter in every tank in case one doesn't restart, but that hasn't been an issue since I replaced the worn impeller shafts on a few of mine. The other...

    Who Knows their Ancistrus???

Wow, does that mean that all the hundeds of thousands of cf cirrohosus in the hobby over the last decades are the direct descendents of a small group of fish?
