November's Speaker: Viktor Gyorffy

Viktor with his planted 125g

Viktor got his first aquarium when he was five years old. His first fish were guppies, then he moved on to other livebearers and easy fish like danios and gouramis. All his tanks were planted with the 5-6 plant species that were available in his area at the time. When he discovered the local plant club, GWAPA, it widened his horizons, and he started keeping a large number of plant species. Eventually, he started using pressurized CO2 in his tanks. He served as GWAPA president for a number of years and is still an active member. Currently, he maintains close to 20 tanks, most of which are planted. He does tubbing in the summer, and he breeds livebearers, killifish, and tetras. He also has an emersed 75 gallon setup.

Also, don’t forget to submit your entries and vote for the Photo of the Month for a chance to win $10 in CCA Bucks!

Raising the racks.

These were custom built for the previous house that had higher ceilings in the basement. The bottom tanks aren’t used as grow outs anymore due to downsizing. It’s too difficult to monitor breeding or catching fry in tanks on the floor so the decision to raise them was made. This is how it was done, keeping the 125’s and 180 in place. Bottom tanks were removed and 4x4’s along with 4 jacks used to lift the stand. The jacks would only raise it about 6-7” at a time. So cribbing had to be set up to hold the stand when jacks needed to be reset and raised about 3-4 times to lift them the 16”.

😆 there are already tanks on the floor underneath the stands to hold tub fish brought in from outside. But those tanks aren’t getting scaped to make it easier to clean and drain.

It's free for parts. I don't know if it works; it doesn't have the foams and is missing the intake and spray bar but it does have everything else. Pickup in Gaithersburg.
