Whew! Glad it's back up & running again!
I was starting to think it was the porn filters that kept the site from loading on this pc.
All those "insect porn" pictures that ya'll are famous for

As many are aware the site was down for a few days. The hosting company took a power hit or something and the hosting server went down as well as my DNS server. I took a few days to get the hosting fixed and then the DNS server, then time for DNS to propagate, then to configure the hosting server and the software some more. I don't think we lost many posts, but this was the best I could do to get the site back.

Second the thanks!

I followed that, sorta. But as I like to learn things and have a bit of computer savvy.... A few questions.

Why do you need two servers? I know little about them, but I want to learn.

What does DNS stand for?

And what do you mean by "propagate"? I can think of several things, just wondering which it is.

Later!
Amanda.

Thats techno speak for - The computer got ich and bloat at the same time, floated at the surface belly up (but still alive), treated with a salt dip and Rid-Ich, went into quarantine for a few days and all better now.

Or something like that, right Ron.

By the way, THANKS!!

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It basically takes the domain www.capitalcichlids.org and transforms it into an ip address. This way we can remember catchy website names instead of strings of numbers. Propogation means, when you change your server, you have to change the information for everyone on where that server is. It takes a while for different service providers to update their information on where your site is located. Some places download new information every few hours. Some may only update once in a 24 hour period. If you change the pointer for your server, some people may be back online in a couple hours, others may take a day to find the site again. :D
