Met a few of you early at Julie's picnic perhaps, doubtless catch up with some of you at meetings or the Catfish Convention since the bottom feeders I resemble are my main interest. Presently only doing South American species that I imagine can be induced to spawn, but may have to get some Tangs after seeing them and listening to Sara get all lyrical about them.
Anyway, have about maxed out on tanks at 20, mostly small, but have two 55s and a 75, and a fantasy about acquiring a 125-150 acrylic tank that could actually be moved up two flights of narrow stairs when my landlord isn't looking. Recently discovered that one can fit 9 ten gallon tanks on a wrought iron two-tier 48" stand if they're turned sideways, thus creating an Apisto nursery, at least that's the plan.
Most of my Apistos are still adolescent, have A. borellis, hongsloi, panduro, pertensis, vejiitas, barlowi, 'Apache', D. maculatus and N. anomalus.
Have spawning groups of S. barbatus and kronei, and juvenile C113s on order. What I really want are some more C. 'super' arcuatus however, as I've got three huge females and one male that been have 'swimming the glass' since I got them but just can't seem to bring themselves to lay any eggs, hoping if I can add a couple more males into the mix that they'll stimulate things enough do the trick.
Anyway, have tons of F1 Bolvian Rams if anyone is interested, happen to think they're one of the prettiest cichlids available (my male is 4" long and just about iridescent most of the time), guessing that some day these are going to be available as predominantly crimson hybrids.
New to the Apisto thing, would welcome any advice on the minimalist approach to creating conditions conducive to spawning.
