Micro mesh is the best for buffing acrylic.

You can start with sand paper than work your way down the grits and start using the micro mesh.

What grit do you start with and then finish with?

i should see how much it would be just for the tank.
i'm cleaning up a 55 acrylic now.
won't ever by another tank where the owner has a undergravel filter in it and it isn't cleaned out. it was SO gross after i took the undergravel out. eck!!!!!!!!!!!
got all the rocks out, need to get all the algae on the back off. guess i'll try the soaking w/ clorox. tried scraping, no such luck.
