Multies Staring Contest

I'm sitting at my desk just reading posts and when I turned to look at the multie tank I realized that every single adult fish is out of their shells and looking straight at me. Maybe they are trying to tell me to turn out the room light and go to bed...

I wish mine would breed more. I've had them almost a year and none of the babies have ever made it to maturity. They have only a few babies and then they are gone completely. Right now there is one fry that hangs out with its parents. I wonder if the other multies or the BN are doing something to the fry. Maybe next time I notice a group of fry I'll try raising them in a tank on their own.

Shinchan's super-secret formula for Multie breeding success:

1. Play sand substrate. Fry are almost the exact same color as play sand.
2. However many shells you think you need, multiply it by 3
3. Put some rock in there too, and some plants if the mood strikes you
4. Totally abuse/ignore the tank. Only do water changes every 3 months. Let it become overgrown with hair algae. Never test water params (like ever). Let the internal filter become totally clogged with algae so that there is barely any flow. Allow your 4 year-old daughter to scare the beejezus out of the fish on a regular basis, yell and stomp a lot in the vicinity of the tank, and wildly overfeed the fish. Oh yeah, and make sure you don't dip any plants that you introduce to the tank so that it can become overrun with pond snails (pond snails are like a pet hamster to the multies, they love taking them out to play).

The ones I got from you are just big enough to breed but they are also mixed in with some full-grown adults and at this point I can't tell who's breeding with who. It's like a wet and wild orgy in there...

I have to agree if i tend my multies to well they are happy to sit there and look at me.

Abuse them a bit and they want to reproduce like crazy

I personally think its their plan to get enough numbers to take over the world!

Well that or make a chain to the tank next door.

Haha, I'll have to start purposefully neglecting them then. My guys are too spoiled to reproduce I guess.

HAHA! I just saw teeny teeny babies on the other side of the tank amongst different shells and another pair of adults. Looks like I have two pairs that like each other now!
