The adventure in fish keeping began in 1954. My friend, Carl Vischer, and I would catch Tessellated darters and Blacknose dace from a local creek, but things changed dramatically when I went to college and met Bruce Gebhardt. Very quickly we realized that we had mutual interests in fish, and he lived only 15 minutes from me. During the 40+ years of our friendship we collected from Pennsylvania/New Jersey to Florida. Also during those years Bruce became the president of the North American Native Fish Association as well as the editor of their publication. Simultaneously he developed an interest in photography where he concentrated on everything alive during his collecting trips. Upon his untimely death I became the purveyor of a few trash bags full of color slide’s which I was able to convert to an electronic slide show. For my presentation, “North American native fish suitable for a 20 gallon long aquarium”, we can all witness the results of Bruce’s work.
