Hey everyone,
I would just like to introduce myself. I have a 75gallon with 1-frontosa, 1-blue dolpin moori and 2- peacocks.
10gallon brackish water with 2-bumblebee gobys

I would like some advice as to what it happening to my cichlids.
They seem to all have discoloration. None look sick and are eating aggressively. I feed them black worms, rosy's and flakes. I just did a 30 gallon water change this weekend. I use nutrafin cichlid conditioner instructions say 5ml per 10 gallons, Seachems lake salt 1.5 tsp per 10 gallons, Seachems Malawi 1 tsp per 10 gallons.
So in my 30 gallon monthly water change I do 4.5 tsp salt, 2 tsp buffer, conditioner 15ml. Please help I do not know if I am just worring or if I am doing something wrong

Welcome to the forum. What are the water parameters in your tank? I don't have much experience with the fish you are specifically keeping, but I would think that you would want to up your water changes to weekly instead of monthly.

I STRONGLY AGREE ;). ALSO TAKE A WATER SMAPLE TO YA LFS TO HAVE IT TESTED TO CHECK YA PARAMETERS. A LITTLE MELAFIX MAY HELP BUT IM NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

Miguel, Stop feeding them Black Worms immediately. That food is not good for their intestines and there is always a problem with either parasites in their stomach or bloat from clogged bowels. FYI, New Life Spectrum is a food I highly recommend for your Cichlids, okay.

Nevertheless, use Epsom salt to clear their intestines also don't feed them for about 2-3 days and that will clean out their tummy's and soon enough you'll see their color come back.
I forget how many spoons of Epsome Salt to use, but research it on the Internet and I'm sure you'll find it.

Don't forget to do your water changes and raise your PH too. Any questions PM me. Oh, don't clean your bio media in your filter for a couple weeks, just the water. A 50% water change once a week until they're back to normal then every 2 weeks religiously. You should really consider coming to our next meeting. You'll have a great time and meet a lot of new fish friends.

Good luck,

Richard

Hi Miguel and welcome to the forum! :)

Like Richard said, the blackworms are not good for deepwater rift lake fish. Their systems are not used to such high doses of protein and they will eventually get bloat. Also, when you say rosys, you're talking about feeder fish? If so, I'd top that as well. Of the fish you have frontosa are the only piscivores. Peacocks and Cyrtocara moori are both sand-grazing fish that eat small bugs and crustaceans out of the sand.

I've never kept fronts, but don't think a lot of folks feed them live food. I believe that the main concern is bringing in disease off of feeder fish.

If you were to switch over to a high quality pellet and away from live food, this should also help with water conditions dramatically (along with more frequent water changes).

Good luck and keep us posted. :happy0144:

Thanks Richard. And you too Tony. I will begin this weekend with my weekly water changes and buy some Epson salt with some New food. All my test came out normal except for my Nitrate levels which where about 40ppm ( the weekly changes will take care of that), and my Ph was about an 8.0. I am slowly raising the PH to about and 8.4 -8.6. Hopefully within the next 4 weeks my fellas get better.
I will definitely make the effort to make it to the next MEET.
Thanks Everyone.
