Hi. I am asenior citizen born in Boston, but now living in North East, Maryland. That id the name of the community, so don't ask "But where in Northeast Maryland". I have a 40 gallon fish tank, but my son nagged me into purchasing a 120 gallon tank. He has tried to convince me to buy a couple of Oscars because they would greet me everytime I entered the room. With due respect to Oscar lovers, I told him I didn't want fish whose principal form of entertaiment involved staring at me while I was staring at them,particularly when they don' t talk. So I have settled on cichlids. I need advice on them- everything from setting up the tank to breeding them.

i love fishing down in northeast, missed the yellow perch bite down there in march but managed to get a few nice ones anyways. I live in Darlington, not to far from ya.
African cichlids have amazing colors and are relatively easy to keep and breed in my experience. You made a great choice. I always liked my tanks with lots of rock and lots of fish. My absolute favorites are the Yellow Labs, theres a white version from "Nkhata Bay". I prefer a sand substrate but only if you dont mind them messing it up, they love to dig and redecorate. If you decide to use alot of rock but a piece of lighting grid under your substrate so if a rock falls the shock is absorbed throughout the tank.
