IMPORTANT: CCA Elections & the Future of CCA

Greetings CCA members!

2020 has been an unusual year for our club. With in person meetings suspended for the foreseeable future, we’ll need to get creative about this year’s elections.

Per the CCA bylaws, elections must be held in October. This year, we have several board members who are not running for re-election and we’ll need replacements if the club is to continue.

This year we’ll need a lot of “new blood” on the board in order for the club to continue. Without new volunteers, the club will disband. If you love your club, please consider nominating yourself for the BOD.

At this time, we need a volunteer to act as Nominations Chair. This is a temporary duty which ends after elections. This person is responsible for receiving and confirming acceptance of nominations and may be asked to help run the elections. Please PM me or post here if you are willing to volunteer. We need to have a Nominations Chair by 9/23.

Board positions are described below. Once we have a Nominations Chair, we'll set a deadline for nominations.

President
The President shall be the principal executive officer of the Association and shall preside at all meetings of the organization and of the Board of Directors. He/she shall be authorized to sign checks, drafts, and other orders for the payment of money, notes or other evidence of indebtedness issued in the name of the Association. He/she shall also be authorized to enter into any contract or agreement and to execute in the Association's name, along with the Treasurer, any instrument or other writing. He/she shall see that all order and resolutions of the Board of Directors are carried into effect. He/she shall have the right to supervise and direct the management and operation of the Association and to make all decisions as to policy and otherwise which may arise between meetings of the Board of Directors, or the members. He/she shall perform such other duties and have such other authority and powers as the members may from time to time prescribe.
Vice President
The Vice President shall assist the President in supervising and directing the management and operation of the Association. He/she shall perform such other duties and have such other authority and powers as the members may from time to time prescribe or as the President may from time to time delegate.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall have the custody of the association's funds and shall keep full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements of the Association and shall deposit all monies and other valuables in the name and to the credit of the Association into depositories designated by the Board of Directors. He/she shall disburse the funds of the Association as ordered by the Board of Directors or the members and provide a financial report at each general meeting and at such other times as the Board of Directors shall direct. He/she shall make all bank statements and other financial records of the Association available to any member upon request. He/she shall be authorized to sign checks, drafts, and other orders for the payment of money, notes or other evidence of indebtedness issued in the name of the Association. He/she shall perform such other duties and have such other authority and powers as the Board of Directors may from time to time prescribe or as the President may from time to time delegate.
Corresponding Secretary
The Corresponding Secretary shall be responsible for all publications, fliers, advertisements or other material that the Association shall publish. He/she shall perform such other duties and have such other authority and powers as the Board of Directors may from time to time prescribe or as the President may from time to time delegate.
Recording Secretary
The Recording Secretary shall maintain minutes of all general meetings and meetings of the Board of Directors and shall make such minutes available to any member upon request. He/she shall notify members of the date and location of meetings by electronic media or other means. He/she shall perform such other duties and have such other authority and powers as the Board of Directors may from time to time prescribe or as the President may from time to time delegate.
Additionally, we have four “At Large” members of the BOD.

To run for the board you must be a member in good standing (e.g., your membership dues are paid). Additional information on elections can be found in the club bylaws, located here: https://www.capitalcichlids.org/forums/bylaws/

Please plan to nominate yourselves if you are willing to volunteer for the BOD; do not rely on others to know you’re interested and nominate you.

As I'm ineligible to run for any official position, I will.. once again... take care of nominations.
Provided, however, that the position is renamed from "Nomination Chair" to "Nomination Dude."
