Hello and Thanks!

I attended the May meeting and was suitably impressed by how it went. I am not (yet) a member of the CCA or ACA, however I am leaning toward joining.

At other clubs in the past (for things other than fish) there was more going on with convention planning and internal politics than having fun with the hobby the club was about. Needless to say what I experienced at the May CCA meeting was amazing by comparison.

Everyone I met was friendly and welcoming. Being a slight bit of a recluse at times this was a little shock to the system in a good way.

The presentation was enlightening and entertaining, and the auction was lots of fun.

Here are some things I would like to know in order to better understand how the club operates:

Dues, what are they and what other things does the club do to raise funds?

How is the auction organized, can anyone put something in and make money from it with some going to the club or are the items strictly donated with proceeds going to (insert place here)?

Anything else you can share that will enlighten me about the club is appreciated. Meanwhile I'll read some of the forums.

Thanks,
Jim

I am glad you had a good time.

We do discus conventions and things at times. but at a minimum at the meetings. We try not to do toooo much business. Each year we have elections but other than that, you see me up front making a few announcements and thats about it.

The "mini" auction as we call it, (meeting auction) has a split. I need to look over in the rules but I believe its 1/3 club and 2/3 seller for non members.
For club members its $1.00 per item to the club. The rest goes to the seller.
We do want donations but it is not required of anyone.

Our money mostly comes from Dues, the mini auction, and anything else I can come up with. lol
You saw on the side a raffle going as well as we were selling some books and club shirts. We make very little off these but everything helps.

The money goes into our "general" fund. It is used for things like the speakers that we fly in, the projector, laptop, pa system, etc. We also have donated items ot other clubs, and organizations, like the Paul Loiselle cichid conservation fund.

The dues are $20.00 for an individual for a year or $30.00 for a family. ( must live under one roof)

If you look at the portal page/ home page on here and look down the left side you can find more answers on items.
But let me know if I can help in any way.

Also, I have moved this to the welcome section.

Pat,
Thanks, you covered what I was curious about.

Sounds to me like the club is working from the right formula. :)

Glad you attended and enjoyed the meeting ;) I can't make all the meetings but when I do get to attend one I always have a blast. Hopefully we'll be seeing you regularly.
