Hello All!

Just joined at the meeting on Saturday. Pretty cool, I must say...

So, here is a liitle about me...

My name is Eric, and I just moved to MD in Aug. I'm stationed at Andrews AFB where I work way more then I'd like, but it's fun. I've been in the hobby for about 12 years or so. Being in the military I've had the chance to travel just a little. I started back up in the hobby while I was in Germany, and the selection of Cichlids were pretty nice.

Since moving to MD I have set up my 180g. It's stocked with some mixed Malawi, and a few Vics.

I just started to cycle a 55g that I picked up from a friend. I'm looking at getting some shell dwellers, I've never had them, but I hear they are fun to watch.

Well that's me in a nut shell. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, and eager to learn as much as I can.

Welcome Smitty! It was good to meet you on Saturday. I Hope you enjoy your time with us. What do you do in the Air Force? my wife is an AF retiree (24 years) and spent quite a few years in Europe (3 yrs in Belgium)...all of that time in Civil Engineering.

I'm a Military Working Dog handler, K-9 for short. I've been working with my Narcotics Dog, Hunter since December. He's an 8 year old German Shepherd. So if any of you keep dogs too, and have questions about training, health or anything else let me know. I'm always glad to help...

I wanted to get into K-9 in the Army back in the 70's, but they wouldn't let women hold that position back then.

Do you have a picture of Hunter that you can share. I love German Shepherd Dogs. Is he of German or Chec stock?

Man, not only is that unfair, it's just dumb!

When people think about domesticating wolves into dogs, they think of cavemen and hunting trips. What I bet happened is that the kids brought the wolf puppies home, and it was the cave moms who got stuck taking care of it. It was probably the women who raised the dogs and took care of them.

If anyone doubts what I'm talking about, just look at how well dogs respond to motherese [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_talk]. They eat it up! They're more responsive than three year olds are.

My psycho hound dog was thrown out of obedience school, barely leash trained, and needs to be restrained when we come up to other dogs in the park.

Yet she turns into the biggest baby when my wife speaks motherese to her. She even lets Janet tuck her in at night!

Indeed Amanda and I have a dog issue - the last one Amanda resolved with a 2x4!! Territory problems. Willing to trade fish for advice.

Just let me know, you can PM me, or get with at the next meeting. Don't worry about the fish, I'm always glad to help.

All also be sure to get some pics up in the next couple of days. Sad to say, but I have no picture of Hunter yet. I'll get some at work on Friday...

I like German Shepherd's, that may be the next dog I get. So far I have kept a Siberian Husky, an Akita and "CJ" my Yellow Lab.

I want a rotty and a newfoundland mix. I saw one about a year ago... man what a great dog ! Size of a rotty but acted like foundland. So smart and lovable And he could save me if I was drowning :lol:

Bill likes German shepards and labs. He actually used to breed them and out of every litter he would donate one of them to either the blind or the police. This was years ago needless to say lol
