Fragile World

At last I made it, being a computor novice didn't help my registration but the team got me in here Big Thanks!!
My name is Peter Whelan(67),and I have been keeping fish for 50 years WOW! is it that long.I currently have just 3 tanks operational, but I am in the process of converting my garage into a fishouse with loadsa tanks (approx 25).My great love are west African river species Nannachromis, pelvicachromis etc.Over these many years I have always bought the newer fish coming in, trying to establish breeding colonies with a modicum of success.
South/central american cichlids have always been my first choice, but not the real big tank busters, space being the first consideration. In terms of experience I have had the privilage of being a Senior "A" class Judge,Editor of a fish magazine,Lecturer,Wholesaler/Retailer,book author, and regular magazine contributor here in the UK.What else? oh! father of 4 children, and husband of a long suffering fish widow,God Bless Her.I also love to meet other Aquarists around the world, and I have many fish friends as a result. What an all consuming fabulous hobby Hi to all you guys.

Kind Regards Peter or Pete if you like

Hello Peter, welcome to the forum. There goes the theory that my addiction will lessen as I grow older.

I doubt if we will see you at many meetings if you are in the UK.
Long ride for a 3 hour meeting lol

Hello Peter and Welcome to the CCA forum. You might be our member from the furthest distance.

Yes, I can see where fishkeeping is a long term thing. Many of the fish live a long time.. Friendships made are better with time.. and there is always 'the new fish' to find.

'See' you on the forum!

Welcome aboard !!!! Who knows we may actually meet one day. What part of the UK are you in? Do you know Ray Blackburn? He is a cichlid hobbyist in the UK.

Ahh, come on - it's only a short hop skip and jump over the pond. What's a small body of water like the Atlantic between fish folk?

Where in England are you fragile? Most of my family lives over there :)

Hello Pat,nice to hear from you,you never know I visit relatives in New Bedford Mass. every year,so it would be rather nice to meet up with the gang and talk fish.At least Boston to Washington would be a tad shorter,I might even be ontime Ha!Ha!
I will just have to admire you guys from a distance,at least I can be an overseas contact for the club, and maybe help you locate very rare fish. We are doing well for unusual stuff at the moment despite the credit crunch. Regards Big Pete.

HI Lonny,
I live near Crewe in Cheshire, about 1hour from Liverpool,Manchester,Birmingham,3 of our big cities I am well placed to go round all the fish shops,I go that often we are all on first name terms.I've not heard of Ray Blackburn I'm afraid, but with a name like Blackburn(my favourite soccer team) he must be a great guy Regards Big Pete

What a cool name "Lively" as you can see on my response to Lonny I live in historic Cheshire,a place by the way where all the rich soccer stars have homes very "POSH".however I bet none of those millionaires keep Cichlids, they don't know what they are missing hey folks. T.T.F.N. Big Pete

Hi Fragile.

I had to Google Cheshire to see where it was. I've never been to the UK, but it's nice to hear from you.

My oldest son is spending the spring semester in London, in Bloomsbury. (Don't know if you've ever been.) The program combines academics like studying plays and art in class with field trips to the theaters and museums.

He's seen a fair amount of the city, plus side trips to Italy, Paris, and the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, I stay home and pay the bills. Hope to get over to your neck of the woods someday, after my collecting trip to Uruguay. (I can dream.)

Nice to meet you.
