Came home today and noticed 2 Firemouths guarding the back of the tank. Sure enough, eggs laid on the background. Most are brown, with some white ones. What do I do now?
Have anything in another tank that will eat excess fry? Firemouths are very prolific, and once they figure out taking care of the eggs/fry you'll quickly be overrun with the wee buggers.
Congrats... if the eggs are a brown color they should be fertilized. Well when my fish spawn that's how I can tell by that color... even in my hybrids when they spawn. Hopefully you should see some black dots in the middle of the eggs later today so you will know for sure if they been fertilized.
thanks Bmore. that clears it up. the Firemouths came from Frank Cowherd. I can't believe they paired upand spawned in less than 3 months. There is actually anotner pair staking out a corner in my 180.
