End of an era

Took an Eheim 2213 offline last night, after finding a cory wedged in the surface extractor attachment (usually, it's been ancistrus fry). This filter had been running continuously on my 30 since 1986, with two minor repairs--an O-ring and an impeller shaft.

I plan on setting it back up on a different tank this weekend.

I'd say 27 years of continuous operation is a strong endorsement of the quality of the Eheim classic line.

Pretty impressive. I've been pleased with the performance of all my Eheim products. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.

Update: End of an era, indeed. While performing maintenance yesterday, I snapped the plastic pipe that enters the bottom of the canister. Will have to order a replacement part. $8.40 plus shipping from Eheim parts.

But still, if this is the first major repair I've had to undertake since 1986, it's still a bargain at twice the price.

I've had the same 2213 running on various tanks for about 12 years. I've replaced impellers and shafts and had one of the quick-connect valves fail (just cut it out entirely), but it's still going strong.

Hope fluvals last as long. anyone?

I had a Fluval - got it used, not long after I got the 2213 (also used). It didn't last long and we replaced it with a 2217 pretty quickly. That was in 2006. Maybe things have changed, but I never liked the Fluval canisters and heard a lot of complaints about them when I worked at Aquarium Center.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a used FX5 on my 90G. I got it about 6months ago and so far so good. If I go 180G, I plan on adding another FX5.
But I was curious to see if anyone else has issues with Fluvals, specifically the FX5.
