The Lamboj book is really good reference for westies. CCA was lucky enough to have him speak about West African fish at one of our meetings. This was right before the book was released,I got my copy at the meeting.

Ahh, I should have known you'd get pics.

Sigh... sadly I don't have room for anymore. Moreover - I don't have time to add another to the mix. It already takes a week to do all the water changes and when I do a serious cleaning of the tanks - it takes a week dedicated to just that to do it. I do the bucket brigade for 9 tanks totalling about 300 gallons. I need to get a Python cleaner before I even think about getting any more tanks. Spare wall space wouldn't hurt, either! lol

Eventully, I'll have my fish room and this won't be an issue :)

I'd be SOL without the Python. They're $$.

I found one online pretty decent price - 25ft $32.00 and a 20 ft extension was $14.00 or I can just go with the 50 ft for about $58.00. I need to measure to see how much I actually need.

That's not a bad deal. If you can get by with 45', I'd say go with that one instead of the one-piece deal. I have a 50' hose and only ever end up using about 25' of it to go to my workshop and show tank on the other side of the basement. The extra 25' of hose sitting on the ground does nothing except waste water and reduce flow rate/efficiency.

Think I got it from Drs. Foster and Smith a while back when I moved up from 55 to 110 and realized that water changes would be going from 3-4 five gallon buckets up to 6-8 buckets.

It would also be very frustrating to refill tanks on the rack with a 5-gallon bucket and 9" or so of head clearance.

The python is definitely a life saver. I wouldn't keep a tank over 55 gallons if I had to do manual water changes. 9 tanks takes me about 4 hours for a 30% water change.

Not to come back to the fish  but they do look like Congochromis dimidiatus in the picture with females! Someone should jump on them as it's a fish that isn't imported all that often. The females have relatively clear/unmarked tails while the males have banding/bars in their tails.

It only took me 3-4 years of hard searching and waiting to get C. dimidiatus in after the last time I had some. Well, at least to get girls. I managed to get a small group of wild boys slightly earlier.

Yes, soft water and lower pH. I'm assuming they came from the same location as the ones I got right before the ACA convention. If so they are living in my tap (7.6pH and 300ppm) just fine. I'll get them moved to a breeding set-up in short order were I'll start pushing the values down aiming for a pH around 6 and hardness under 100ppm.

Bottom line is that they are generally fairly hardy fish assuming they haven't been abused in transit.

I did jump on them! As soon as I saw them,I knew I had to get as many as the budget would allow. When I asked the owner about them, one of the things he mentioned was they were wild caught and had been there about a month. I figured the first person to recognize them would probably snag a bunch and then tell friends about the remainder. There were about 30 or 40 fish in the tank I'm thinking about going back next week if there is anything left I'll look for extra females.
