Daphnia outdoors

I've cultured daphnia outdoors in the past in garbage cans - I don't worry about mosquitos-fish eat them too, especially the larvae. Large fish will eat dragonfly larvae, but the dragons will get small fish, like 1 1/2" or under. I don't actively culture....I feed nothing-let the sun grow green water. I start the culture with aquarium water from a water change and once the water turns green I add some daphnia.

Best results came one year when a mouse fell into the culture. Lots of daphnia from that little thing. I don't think I'd use a cat-unless the volume was very large. Oooh ooh that smell! Bleccchhhh!
