Matt, you may recognize me from a few other sites, I had to register here in hopes of getting a hold of you. Your pm box was full on another site, and for some reason I am unable to pm you here. Anyhow, I would like to speak with you if you have time. I can be reached by phone, or email, but would rather not just post it out in the open. Perhaps you can send me a pm here and I can respond. If not..... Well, I guess I will have to figure something else out. Sorry, kind of an odd reply to this thread, but my questions are related I can assure you. Thanks,

Anthony

Here's the list again - who wants some goodeids (endangered Mexican livebearers)?

Africans
  • Stomatepia pindu - Lake Barombi Mbo CARES ~3" probable male - $10
Goodeids
  • Chaplicthys pardalis (collection location known) - Blue-green goodeid CARES ~1" - $3 each
  • Ameca splendens - Butterfly Goodied CARES ~1" - $2 each
  • Ilyodon furcidens "Comala, MX" - Basslet goodeid CARES ~1.5" - $4 each
South Americans
  • Cichlasoma dimerus "Arroyo Chelsea" - F1 - only ones in captivity from wild parents collected in Uruguay - seem to max out at ~5" for male/3" female - ~1" - $8 each
  • Australoheros sp. "Local" - F1 - from my wild pair...probably the only ones in captivity - pretty yellow and dark brown chanchito - ~1.5-2.5" - group of $8 each or 5/$35

  • Geophagus brasiliensis "Bahia Blue" - F1 ~6-7" - $20
  • Australoheros sp. "Laguna India Muerta" - wild group collected in Uruguay last spring ~3-4" - 5/$80

  • Gymnogeophagus gymnogenys "Rio Cureim" ~1.5" - F1 offspring of golden Gymnogeo collected in Uruguay - $12 each or 4/$40
  • Crenicichla cf. saxatalis "Cardoso" - wild trio (m/2F) of Uruguayan pikes from first and only collection of Arroyo Cardoso ever - ~6-7" - $200
Convicts and Friends
I think I'm the most comprehensive source of known-provenance "convicts" in the hobby. Most of these aren't available from Rapps...or even the guys who originally collected them. Any of them are great fish...just choose one and you'll have more in no time (or ask me and I'll recommend one)!

I'll do my best to ID pairs where possible but it's always best to start with a group...
  • Amatitlania kanna "Rio Rabolo" - F2 - Panama cons ~1.5-2" - $5 each or 6/$25
  • Amatitlania siquia "Rio Cubayo, Costa Rica" - F2 - Yellow cons - ~1" - $5 each or 6/$25

Matt, do you pretty much always have goodeids available? If so I will pick up some from you at the next meeting. I am setting up a 20 regular up at my daughters daycare for them sometime before the next meeting. I would rather put in some CARES fish in the tank then some run of the mill guppy or mollie.

Bump for last call.

I'm planning to be at Jon's about 1 PM, so if you've asked for fish, please show up :)

Thanks,

Hey Matt,

How big do the Gymnogeophagus gymnogenys "Rio Cureim" get? Did some searches on them and couldn't get much info

Hi Arlene,

Male's get about 6" but it takes years... Someone's already claimed the rest of the Gymnogeos I have.

Anything else catch your eye? Most of the stuff I keep stays relatively small...

Not a lot of info on them because these are probably the only F1 fry of them in the world.
