Big Al's is having a sale on AC70 filters for $19.99. Pretty awesome deal in that they are usually around $50. There is a link on the front page of the website that takes you to the item. I just picked up two of them.

Plus, orders over $75 are free shipping.

Just thought I would let everybody know.

Is the sale over? I can't find the link on their website and the sale price shows $46.99

Is there any difference between the ones on sale for $19.99 and the ones not on sale? They have different SKU#.

One of the members of ECC did a little investigating, and this is what he found...

Big Als had approximately 750 of the "Older" AC 70's in their warehouse.
Now you might ask what is the difference?
The older AC 70's came with the AC Sponge and Carbon, as the new AC 70's comes with the sponge, carbon and BioMax . Biomax is the rings that according to Hagen allows growth of bacterial colonies to convert ammonia and nitrite to nitrate.
So do you really need to spend all of the money on something that, IMO, does not really do what it says. I actually believe (yes, this is an opinion:rolleyes:) that these bio"whatevers" do just the opposite, as they really collect waste on each ring and hurt, not help water quality.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it helps. Thanks. So, the older ones don't come with bio media? But you do need bio media.

You can never have enough extra filters. :) I picked up two, but I suppose I can get a couple more.
