My stealth stuck on last night. When I saw my fish acting listless I checked the temp. 98 frickin degrees. I lost all my ruby greens. Don't know what else boiled to death. I had to scramble nag leave for court. I know how bad it was when I get out of court. The one us was I was planning on converting the tank to a SA setup. This will speed that process along.

that sucks dude. I bought a brand new heater for my tank at work even though my old Ebo Jager was working flawlessly for a couple years I figured it would be chaep insurance.

All my rock kribs ( 8 pundiamillia Neyeri igombe Island), one female krib, all three male ruby greens and a female (not pictured). She got her Whirlpool burial before court. One baby metriaclima. All my other metriaclima made it along with a stray thick skin hap female and a female ruby green

Just got off the phone with Marineland they will cover the heater and the fish. I got to get an estimate from Jay since he is the only one who carries these fish.

I am always sorry to hear about these mishaps. It is really a shame this happened Prince.

On the otherhand, if this switches you from those boring rift lakers to the far more interesting SA's, maybe it is a blessing in disguise.

I once had a heater cook my fish and have not used them since. I kept room temp high enough to keep them alive for some time and then moved to a fish room where the space heater did the job. I know some folks have no choice, but a tank heater is too often a lethal weapon. I just do not use them.

Unfortunate...

...though I seem to recall several posts recently regarding Stealth heaters being recalled for fact of their 'capriciousness'. I swapped mine out some months ago as its hard to argue with exchanging potentially defective (read as 'fatal) heaters for new and ostensibly better ones.

Anyone else still rolling the dice with Stealths? Seems an appropriate name given their propensity for catching hobbyists and their fishes unaware.

Very sad news! Sorry to hear about your loss. It is cool that Marineland is replacing them.

I thought only certain stealth heaters (visitherm)were recalled?

I thought it was only the stealth pro's for exploding. I'm still using the regular stealths, but they are attached to a temperature controller.

It didnt explode just stuck on. The tank temp was at 98 degrees before I found it.

I just came home to find my Fuellerbornii colony, pair of Cyno Cobue's and Obliquendens colony cooked in a 40 br. The Ebo-jagger got stuck on. Temperature was 96 F. As of this morning everything was fine ( i had to adjust a air line inside the tank) and the temperature felt fine. I'm seriously considering do without heaters and warm up the fishroom instead with a space heater

I had a regular stealth 250w stick on a few weeks ago. Only lost the 5 little brevis that I picked up in the March club auction, would really have been bent out of shape if the 60+ super red BN in the tank had also gotten cooked. They all made it though, and the blonde endler's I've been moving from the main group as they turn up were fine too. I wondered if the heater would be usable after cooling down, so a few days later I put it into the recently set up 125. No fish, just cooold water from the basement tap. It stck on again a day later, but in the larger volume of water it didn't raise the temp as high (was in the 33 long) or do any harm in the empty tank. I'd prefer to heat the room rather than the individual tanks, but it's not practical in the basement.
