OK. So when I saw the announcement for yesterday's talk on raising fry, I was a little skeptical at first. We've all raised fry--how much more could Ted Judy talk about?
I have to admit, I was really surprised by how much really good information Ted had in his talk and how many really good ideas he had.
He covered the ground rules right away--fry need a density of food, so they don't have to expend a lot of energy chasing it down. They need more protein and fat than older fish do, produce proportionately more waste, and because of their smaller surface-to-volume ratio (compared to older fish) are more susceptible to the effects of dirty water. I liked his suspended, hang on the side, spong filter, flow through fry container. And I have to admit, his idea for diluting the tank water for several days in a row, rather than replacing it, is a really good time saver.
Thanks again, CCA leadership, for another great talk.
