I had a breeding group of 1 male and 6 females A. elizabethae awhile back. They are actually really easy to spawn. The reason they are so expensive is due to the difficulties in raising the fry. I would recommend trying A. agassizii which looks similar and just as beautiful.

You should see positive result like the fish starting to come off the bottom in a couple of days. If not, chances are it is too far gone.

Low temperature thermostatic mixing valve is commonly available online. Mine is Watts L1170-M2 and is rated from 60F to 120F. Make sure you buy the one with the 'L' in front. I accidently ordered one without the 'L' and had to return it. The one without 'L' is sold in HD/Lowes as well.
