White Stringy Poo...

Aren't you happy to have a place where people can come together and celebrate a fish having a (more) solid sh*t ... or at least not a stringy one ... and no one blinks twice about it?

I can't think of anywhere else where this would be the case. ;)

Only in the fish world:)

Wierd is good - normal is mundane.

All but one have had something to eat tonight. Good news. Poo still not normal - but at least most of them ate!

I use aquarium (sea) salt for bacterial and some parasite attacks. If the primary problem is an overload of internal parasites (often brought on by stress) the salt can keep the bacterial secondary infection from starting or stop it if already active. Metro will take care of hex (the usual culprit) (but not always). You can take a poop sample and if properly prepared (if you can cook you can do this) view it under a microscope and usually ID the parasite. There are good internet sources (and more bad ones) that will explain the process and give pics to compare with what you are seeing.

P.S.: Hate to mention this - Quarantine for new fish?? My minimum is 90 days (but some people think I'm strange).

Good luck!

LOL at George and Paul!

I actually had them in quarantine, but I got the apistos and had to use the qt tank. I jumped the gun putting the regulars in there with them, I know better but I've never had a problem with fish sickness before... got cocky. Not a mistake I'll make again.

It looks like I dodged the bullet this time around, all of them seem to be recovering nicely. I'm keeping a close eye on them - but I'm slightly obsessive about my fish anyway!

Last update...

All the fish are eating well. They sound like a soundtrack for piranha's feeding. Some of the regular Dempsey's did get the white stringy poo - but haven't seen any in the last 4 days on anyone.

One is still in hiding, but I strongly suspect that is because it's a female. She was the first one to show signs of the infection but her face no longer looks gaunt and she has great color.

I've started the process of water changes to remove the salt - I strongly believe that was the deciding factor and why I didn't lose any fish!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
