Which Air Pump?

Tony

Allright, I know that I've beat this topic to death over multiple threads, but need to stop screwing around and pull the trigger.

(After talking to the wife) I've decided to go with a more economical diaphragm pump.. something that will suit my needs for now and not worrying too much about when I build an addition for a new fish room 2 years from now, etc... (Trying to save some money where I can now)

I need air for maximum 16-20 tanks with about 30-40 devices. I plan on picking up a bunch of brass valves and PVC and setting up a loop.

I've narrowed it down between two cheaper pumps and one slightly nicer pump. Is the Alita worth the extra coin?

DAPPH30 (JEHMCO - $99):

Diaphragm Air Pump, 40 LPM @ 1.5 PSI
"20-35 outlets (conservatively rated)
Durable yet economical plastic housing diaphragm pump can be used for outdoor locations for Pond use or Fish Room applications"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dolphin AV-50
(Ken's - $86):
AV-50 HIGH VOLUME AIR PUMP:

"This will bridge the gap between smaller air pumps and the large blowers. This is excellent for use as a pond air pump or for multiple tank setups. Will pump down up to 10 feet. Only 40 watts of power to run and comes with a 12 outlet manifold. Pumps 50L/min or 2900 c in/ m."

--------------------------------------------------------

Alita AL-40 (Ken's - $156):

"Runs on 46 watts and has a air output of 48 lpm @ 2.18 psi"http://www.kensfish.com/alitapumps.html

--------------------------------------------------------

So what do you think?

Is there a better choice for the 40-50 lpm group that comes in around $100?

Has anyone been around more than one of these pumps that can make a fair noise comparison?

(I promise, after this thread, I'll stop asking about pump selection, lol)

Thanks in advance.

I just got another Coralife Luft SL-65 for like $60. I have one running over 30 sponges and boxes no problem...on 66W!

I like the Av-50 Won brothers/Dolphin pump....40W only and there are plenty of spare parts out there if replacement required. Pretty popular pump

I like the AV-50 as well I have one in my fish room and I think it’s great. On the other hand pump Matt has is only $60. I will take Matt’s word that the pump works great and with the tough economy, that $60 doesn’t sound too bad to me.
