Biotodoma cupido (stunning with a good temperament)
A. macmasteri/vijieta (arguably the most ostentatious dwarfs)
G. altifrons (huge, striking and mild-mannered)
A.oblongum (really remarkable color shifts and pretty mellow)
Guianacara spenozona (not as striking as the others but extremely docile)

Hard not to have discus and angelfish on this list by default, especially Philippine blue veil angels which I just might rate as the most stunning species in the hobby.

I've pretty much given up out on large snarky fish at least until such time as I have more and larger tanks. Am all for "dynamic equilibrium" but have enough drama and tension in my life as is, little cause to manufacture or bring more more into my not altogether tranquil existence.

Each to thine own.

What is the scientific name for the "2 stripe Cichlid"? I'm not sure I know what you are referring to.

I'm pretty new to the new world cichlid scene, so my impressions on my fish are based on mostly juvenile behavior. I'm sure that this list will get reshuffled in the next year, but here are my favorites right now:

  1. Parachromis Yellow Head La Ceiba
  2. Acarichthys heckeli
  3. Rainbow cichlids (would be higher, but my adult male still is hating on his female)
  4. Satanoperca daemon
  5. Fossochromis rostratus ;)

As Tony, I only have limited experience with New Worlds, but I've kept some interesting species. There are quite a few I'd like to try in the future when i have additional tank space.

1. Discus
2. Blue Rams
3. Green Terrors
4. Geophagus altifrons
5. Apistos (huge category, but tough to pick one)
