What are you doing on the 4th?

For 14 years I did 3 parades on the 4th (Dundalk, Towson, and Catonsville) Plus we did Havre de Grace which is held near the 4th but not on it. Since then I stay away from all things related to parades or fireworks..

We packed up the bicycles this morning and went up to the NCR trail. Rode 10 miles. The first 5 is up hill and of course the 2nd 5 is much easier. Came home and for the next 3 hours I have been doing water changes..... Exciting? I think not but I am having fun. Besides my legs are tired after the ride.

Going to cook some burgers on the grill later and relax.

What exciting plans do you have?

Got together with a friend to give her a filter and some gravel then went to Tropical Lagoon so she could get some plants and I could get some Chocolate Gouramis (they still have a few left, but closed at 4). Sooo excited to find these guys!!!

Then, beer with friend, float and acclimate fish, water change on the whiskey barrel.

I did finally find a use for the silk moths that my worms turned into. I let them lay their eggs, then I toss them in the whiskey barrel and wait until a monster from the deep (betta potati) snaps them up! Highly amusing.

Resealed a 20H tank while watching the Nats game with my wife and daughter. Strangely satisfying, although getting the old silicone off is a pain. Will test the tank Sunday. (Interestingly, warm and humid weather reportedly helps the silicone cure faster, so maybe I don't need to wait quite so long.)

Going to stay home and watch a movie tonight.

Oh, and did the water changes I didn't do last weekend, when we were out of town.

Gutted my 40b planted tank. Siliconed in corner guards to make a corner matten filter. Waiting for the silicone to cure.

Also went for a 3-mile walk/run (mostly walk) at Gunners lake here in Germantown.

Quiet evening at home tonight.

I drive a tractor/trailer and haul milk. I pick it up from the farmers and deliver it to local dairies. Im home every night and have pretty nice hours but the farmers milk their cows 365 days a year so we work no matter july 4th, christmas etc. So im working!

Had a pool party here friends, 20 responded to the evite, 30 showed :) Then did small fireworks for the smaller kids in our cul de sac. Now we're watching Despicable Me with them.

This has probably been my best 4th of July ever, between becoming a father and getting published as a freelance journalist on Yahoo Contributor Network.

I am currently sitting in the hospital with this little bundle of joy and as a family we were able to sit in the window and watch several firework shows in Fairfax County:

We're in Bethany Beach and spent yesterday at the pool, at a BBQ and eating a batch of venison chili for dinner.

Tots went to sleep and Siena and I watched the fireworks from the beach...

All and all, it was a pretty good day!

We are up in Canaan Valley West Virginia for the weekend (the family will be here longer but I have to work on Monday). We had some good friends come up and spent the day relaxing, cooking burgers, and drinking a few beers. A good time was had by all!

We just got back today after spending a few days camping at Lake Fairfax. We try to go every year where we get a campsite and hang out with friends. Lake Fairfax is one of the locations where they launch fireworks from in NoVA. We spend the night so we don't have to deal with the crowds of people trying to get out of the park after the fireworks are over.

We also did some fishing, biking, going to the water park and hanging out with the family!
