You don't need a UV sterilizer because your fish will remain healthy without one.
If you're planning on keeping the tank in front of a bright window such that you'll have algae blooms, then maybe.
I actually bought my first UV sterilizer a few weeks ago to assist in treating ICK in cool-water fish (don't tolerate heat well), a pretty specialized use.
I got by for 25+ years without one...

The only time I use my UV's is when I replant a dirted tank, which leads to a bacteria bloom. Get's rid of green water in 3 days.
