You were correct about the fish I entered in the show. I looked it up on the internet and it is a Herichthys carpintis which also has these other names: Cichlasoma carpinte, Pearlscale Cichlid, Green Texas Cichlid, Blue Texas Cichlid. I have been under the delusion that I had a Herichthys cyanoguttatus which has these other names: Texas Cichlid, Rio Grande Perch, Rio Grande Cichlid. The former has the large spots (pearls) as you said. I still think it is a great looking fish and a native American fish to boot.
I have had this fish and it's mate for about 3 years. And I had a half dozen bags of their offspring in the recent auction. Of course I still have about 35 or so of their 3-inch decedents at home now. So if you or anyone else wants some, let me know.
