I have a 55g mixed Malawi tank and recently purchased a 46g tank with thoughts of a planted tank and rich colorful cichlids. Any thoughts or advice?

Depending on how much you want to mess with you water, you could go with dwarf cichlids from South America or West Africa (softer water) like apistos, rams, pelvicachromis, or keyholes, or go with a pair of smaller central americans like rainbows or something from the cryptoheros genus.

A pair or two of rams and a group of apistos would work well for a planted tank with cichlids. You could also stock with a group of tetras and some small catfish.

If you want with an African theme, the Pelvicachromis species, Anomalochromis thomasi or Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi are plant friendly options.

This sounds like a post for the South American lovers of the hobby not us African lovers of the hobby.:angel2:
