Old world or New world Cichlids what is your favorite?

I have kept both Old and New world cichlids over the years. I prefer New World for a few reasons. They seem to be better at taking temperature fluctuations, especially on the high end. Most of the students I teach are from Central America and South America, so I try to have fish in the tank in the classroom that they can possibly identify or connect in some way with. I do like African cichlids, but I prefer West African over EA.

Where do wild bettas count? ;)
I think those would be Asian. I suspect we left out an entire continent. Asian fish are cool. I think we can thank Asia for Rasboras, Koi, gold fish, and plenty more.

Maybe one day we will have someone who specializes in Asian fish.

Keep both Old and New World. Will decide on a favorite sometime soon. (I said that last year too...)

I really like the diversity in CCA speakers. Exposes me to fish that I don't (yet) keep.

Looking forward to the Blackwater presentation at the October CCA meeting for that reason.

There are Asian cichlids (Etroplus - Chromides...and Iranocichla...and another one called Tristramella).

I've only kept Chromides (cool fish)!

I kept and spawned a few new world believe it or not .... I also steal their plecos for my 20 gallon shrimps tanks ;)

I usually have at least one fish in my fish room that is not a Tang ( The majority of my fish are tangs ) . You never know, I might find a new favorite fish! Right now Old world wins.... coolest fish ever with the best bouyancy.... Neolamprologus furcifer.

Really I like both.... but prefer tangs. I would take a new world over mbuna and peacocks though

Half of my tanks (4) are with New world species and the other half with Africans so I think you can called a divided love......

Just recenty I found out that the water comming out of my tap has a Ph of about 6.9. I need to call Arlington County about this. Anyway, I had not needed to test the water in my tanks for a long time, but when I tested them the other day; they had a Ph of below 6.2 and the nitrates were CRAZY high. However, ALL of my fish are fine and not a single one of my little JD fry died. All of my fish look so healthy and active that I had no idea. I can't help but wonder; what would happen to old world cichlid if this happened to them?
