Got a new camera, couldn't afford one of the fancy Nikon's so I went with a P&S for now. Got a Kodak Z1012is, been trying to figure out what settings work best in manual mode. Here's a few shots, suggestions are welcome ;)

Look like you are doing things right Mike. The fourth picture came out real nice I would use those settings as a reference and go from there. That red fin is reaaaaaal nice.

Thanks Kev, I'm havin fun with it... not sure the fish are enjoying it as much. My female comp looks like she'll be spawning some time today, hoping to get some pics of that. (already got over 100 fry growing out, but I'll take more :) )

The 4th picture is nice, the only prob I had with it was the flash washed out the dark colors on the fish. I actually liked the 2nd and 3rd pic's cause it was more of what the fish looks like to my eye. I'm gonna get a couple cheapo slaves off ebay and mount em over the tank and see what that does for me, course that'll be a couple weeks away.

Thanks for the help bro!!!

Very good work!

Are you shooting at an angle to the glass, the reason I ask is, some of the shots seem a bit distorted (it could be my monitor).

Exposures are good, and that is the hard part.

Thanks Guy's!!!

Mike, some of the shots are at an angle, some are more straight on. Some of it was experimenting, and some of it was that my calvus tank is only 4 1/2 in off the floor and unless I lay down (which I do) I can't get straight on and see the lcd... some of those were taken while sitting in my chair and stooping down. (I know I shouldn't be using the lcd either, but my extra large nose makes it hard to use the viewfinder :) )

If you guy's see anything at all that I should be doing differently, or could try... by all means let me know. My feelings won't be hurt at all, to be honest if it wasn't for the help of a couple friends on another forum I woulda already trashed the new camera. I wanted to atleast get something decent before asking you guys to fine tune me. So thanks for the suggestions, and please keep em coming. ;)

Wow, that male comp is so big. It is so easy to spend hours fiddling with the camera taking pics of the fish. Thats why I have only had 2 photo sessions with my fish. I can be there all night taking pics. They look good and will only get better.

Thanks guys!!! I'll be taking more pics tonight, it's really fun tinkerin with it... especially when you finally get one that looks good. :)

Glad everyone is enjoying them.

Diffuse the flash, that should help with the hot spots a bit and it will allow you to capture a bit more detail. Not bad though. Keep shooting!

Cool, I'll try that. Just spent 20 minutes in front of the tank and couldn't get a single picture... the lil buggers won't sit still!!! I'll try diffusing the flash and report back when I get something decent (which might take a while :) )

Thanks for the help Mike!!! Most appreciated ;)

I'm guessing you can't control the shutter speed directly but there may be a sport setting that will let you take better action shots. If you haven't read the manual do it, it'll be worth it. Be warned, if it's anything like the manual to mine stay away from sharp knives and long ropes.
