My 90 just got too small

Great looking tank and fish, Prince. Is it just those 4 fish in there?

Three GT's (1m/2f) and three Red Ceibals (1m/2f). The smallest of my GT's which is a female I may give away or sell. She hasn't grown at the same pace as the other GT's. I don't know if it's bad gene's or just being the least dominant. I think it's just because she is the least dominant. She doesn't look mutated or deformed just smaller than the other two.

Sounds like she's probably being outcompeted for food. I have a couple of convicts in my 180 that are the same way. Perfectly normal looking except they haven't grown in months.

Easiest way would be to set up another tank, and move the pair into that until they spawn, then back into their current tank. Once the fry are free-swimming the parents aren't necessary, and may eat the fry when they're preparing to spawn again.

Once the Red Ceibal eggs become wigglers, the parents will hang them in plants (or preferable to them) gunk on the side of the tank.

Some varieties of chanchitos like to hang their babies up (like these) and others seem to keep them in a ball in the substrate (like a lot of new world substrate spawners).

I showed a monster male Red Ceibal at the last catfish convention (RIP)...probably pushing 7". I don't think they get that big in nature :)

One solution would be to divide the tank with a piece of Poret foam and let each pair do their thing....

Good luck!

I managed to save some of the Red Ceibal wigglers. I got about 25 to 30. I will try to grab some more tomorrow to grow out. I do't want to scare the parents too much. Hopefully if the bread again I can set up a tank for the female to release the eggs in. It would be cool to get a population going for a local store to sell. Wish me luck.
