Hey everyone,
A couple of weeks ago, I saw my Mainganos doing the mating dance.
By the time I got out the camera and started to record it, they had already done about 12 eggs.
It is surprising to see how large the eggs are relative to the size of the fish, and that the female holds 12 to 15, eggs in the bucal pouch in the bottom of her mouth.
In this clip, you will see 3 eggs, the final two rolled off the flat rock, but the female retrieved them.
I kept the video going after the female swam away because the male continued to chase other fish away, including a synodontis petricola.
I think he was hoping the female would return ...
