LIVE BLACKWORMS $20LB

I would be interested in a bulk purchase, but I have no idea how I would keep a pound of black worms alive long enough for me to use them. What's the best way to keep them?

I have a 5g painted black (they like it dark) with an air stone. Change the water weekly and feed high protein food and they'll double about once a month.

How many/much do you keep in there at a time? Sometimes I've had success with that method, but mostly not.

I keep mine in the refrigerator in a shallow pan, not tightly covered. You should rinse them in cold water daily. Craig (of Eastern Aquatics)showed me how to do it with a tightly woven white net... rinses them nicely, and no one goes down the drain! Changed my 1/2 hour of rinsing down to about 5 minutes! Guess, what! It gets done now!

and yep... Craig's worms are great!

i heard they live in colder water too...
I keep them at room temp. I think breeding (or spliting) slows with colder temps.

The most I've had is 1/2lbs. I really only change the water every 2 weeks but with 1lb I'd do it weeekly. about once or twice a week I put my hand in the tank and break up the blob of worms so the ones in the middle get fresh(er) water.

Where blackworms come from

In the last few years the Blackworm Farms have dwindled down to two. All Blackworms are farmed by either Aquatic Foods or another California supplier, J F Enterprises. There are only two Blackworm farms and both are in California

Here are some pics of the Blackworm Farm.

The first pic is of our three production ponds

The 2nd is our main harvesting pond. Worms
from the production ponds are moved to the
harvesting pond for 30 days.

This photo is of our cement purging pond.
Here we leave them for 5-7 days in a bare bottom
cement pond. ( no food allowed)

This photo is of our indoor falicity. Here we clean a 2nd and 3rd
time. What you see in this pic are 30 100-120 lb holding
tanks. We hold the cleaned worms here for 7-10 days.
Then transport them to our Airport wharehouse where they
are held and chilled down to 40-45 degrees and then shipped
via Fed Ex or out of Los Angeles airport.

We supply various Wholesalers, retail Tropical Fish and Pet stores, Institutions and the general public by shipping direct.
I hope this might answer any questions that anyone might have as to where Blackworms come from. Anyone with any questions about our Blackworms feel free to email to blkworm@aol.com
