I'm moving.

I need to move a 20 and a 10 gallon tank, a pair of three year old Angelfish, one of their young, three cats, the three bumblebee Goby and a large number of RCS. Any tips on making this as easy for the fish as possible? I have a 10 gallon bucket and lid with heater and filter, another larger container for the plants/RCS/old substrate and some large breathing bags. Too bad this couldn't happen during the ACA Convention/fish show and the Angelfish could hang out at the convention while I prepared their new home.

The upside to all of this is I'll be moving into a house that has a basement and more space. I am thinking fish room, down the road.

IF you have a large enough DC power inverter the 10 gallon should work with a sponge filter and a heater.

Tanks Prince. I am also looking into what sedatives I can add to the tank before moving them. I expect catching them will be a little stressful for us both.

How far are you moving? Would it be a matter of days? If not, I would just bag them up as one of the last things you do. Break down the tank, move it, set it up right away and re-add them.

sloshing around a bucket can be a lot of stress.

Depending on distance, etc.. I think I'd just drain the tanks and move them intact (or minus any big rocks in them).

Thank you for all of the responses. The move itself will be a short 20 minute drive. What will take the most time is replacing the substrate to try and rid the tank of MTS. So, the plan so far looks like this, set up two or three large buckets with filtration and heaters at the new place, bag fish and deposit in temporary home while I use a 2 day Alum soak (1tsp/gal?) - next add fluke tab on the plants and quarantine them for a week. Maybe I need the sedative more then the fish will. I was thinking about bottom drilling the tank as well, but man am I unsure of that move with all the other things going on. Just getting rid of the MTS would make me happy. Anyone want any snails? I'm done with mine.
