Help 1st Time With Apistogrammas Fry What Do We Do?

Hi,
Dennis and I have a pair of Steel blue Apistogrammas.
They are in a 20 long. The female has been very yellow the last week.

Dennis was looking at the tank and saw fry swimming under and around her!

What do you think we should do?
Pull them and raise them in a separate tank?
Or let them stay in the tank with mom and dad?
I have fresh BBS I can feed.
We are new to Apistogrammas so any help or tip would be great!!

Thanks
Kelly and (VERY HAPPY) Dennis :D

Welcome to the wonderful world of Apistogramma. leave the fry with the parents and feed them BBS. You can leave a night light on, but otherwise it isn't necessary. After about 2-3wks you can remove the parents (it's easier) and set them up in another tank. Continue feeding the fry and do water changes. As the fry get older start trying other foods to sustain them.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your post! It nice to have help only
a click away!!

How many water changes do you do in a week?
I was thinking about every 3 days?

If you want to do every three days have it add up to 25%. You don't want to stress them. You want to keep their bellies full and the excess food from fouling the tank. Siphon up what they don't eat.

What do you do in your tanks?
And how often?
We have one pair and fry in 20 long.

I'm a little lost "If you want to do every three days have it add up to 25%."

Would a smaller amount be better?

Thanks for all your help!!!!!!

One 25% once a week and watch them float around in the current.

You may want to do it differently.

If you want... siphon out the excess food and replace the water you remove.

That sound great. I was thinking we needed to do it 3 times a week.
I use a baby net over the siphon.

Thank you for all the help!

Hi Kelly and Dennis!

The November 2005 issue of Practical Fishkeeping magazine has an article on Apistogramma. I can bring the magazine with me to the meeting tomorrow so you guys can read it.
