Hello from New Jersey!

Some of you guys know me already from ECC, Cichlid-forum, MFK, or from yesterday's CCA meeting but for those of you that don't...

My name is Ed Martin. I'm from Long Branch, NJ and I live within hearing distance of the ocean (about a mile away). While I have only been in the hobby since 2007 I have accomplished a lot so far and am currently suffering from Cichlid Obsession Syndrome...

My main interest in cichlids are the Malawi Haplochromines...and not the common ones (though I do keep some), but the uncommon ones ("oddballs").

I have kept and bred wild Altolamprologus calvus Nkanda Yellow before but besides that I haven't bred any other tangs.

Currently I am expanding to non-cichlid fish such as Puffers, Datnioides tiger fish, catfish, etc.

A lot of people were asking me today what species I kept particularly of Malawi Haplochromines and I actually couldn't remember all of what I keep I have so many... To give you all an idea what I keep and how nuts I am here's a list... I THINK this is my complete list of what I currently have... There's probably as much as 25 more species I have kept before and bred that aren't on the list.

Complete list (I think!) of what I have:
Wildcaughts, F1s, German Bred, etc:
Taeniolethrinops furcicauda Chiofu Liwani wild colony
Lichnochromis acuticeps wildcaught colony, both malawi and tanzania variants
Nyassachromis boadzulu Kanchedeza WC colony
Tyrannochromis macrostoma var. maculiceps WC colony
Stigmatochromis spilostichus type adult group
Exochochromis anagenys
Protomelas steveni taiwan Taiwanee Reef
Protomelas sp solo f1s

Copadichromis 'virginalis firecrest Gome' Gome REAL
Placidochromis sp Jalo
Labidochromis caeruleus
Aulonocara stuartgranti Ngara
Aulonocara sp lwanda
Tyrannochromis nigriventer f1 male
Tyrannochromis macrostoma WC (sold as maculiceps variant but DEFINITELY a normal macrostoma)
Protomelas sp. 'spilonotus tanzania'

Phyllonemus typus WC groups
Chromobotia macracanthus
Datnioides polota WC, have this in the 265g with the haps. Loves it in there and gets along fine...
Datnioides microlepis
Tetraodon lineatus WC
Ancistrus sp. albino
Synodontis tanganicae WC
Botia histrionica WC group
Crossocheilus siamensis

Non-fish:
Gallus gallus domesticus
Canis lupus familiaris
I currently have the following species waiting for me to pick up from Erik Dyke in a few months when me and him do a swap meet in Virginia again with other people as well:
Taeniochromis holotania
Stigmatochromis modestus Red
Otopharynx lithobates 'O.B.' (<---NOT a big fan of man made fish, but this new variety of O.B.s are NICE...would be kept separate from the normal ones I have naturally)

Tanks I have (still not a complete list, all of them aren't filled yet but they will all be up and running by the end of this month):

I was shocked yesterday at the CCA meeting when I found out how many haplochromine keepers there are down here... Most Malawi Cichlid keepers in NJ are Mbuna breeders with a few token haplochromine breeders here and there including myself... The rest of the folks in NJ seem to be new world or Tanganyikan Cichlids keepers...

I registered as a member today to the forum and club. I doubt I can make it to all meetings since it is a 4 hour drive for me but I am going to try and make it to the BBQ this summer that you guys have...

I heard a small handful of you are coming up to the ecc auction May 2nd... I'll see you then!

Ed, welcome to CCA...now we have TWO Jersey Shore members!
Ed, the Hap Keepers down in Md/Va are strong in not only numbers, but in quality.
The absolute BEST Peacocks that I have ever seen in the hobby have been from members of the CCA.

Glad to see more Joisey Boys at the meeting. I really wanted to meet you yesterday Ed, but somehow we missed each other. I plan on being at the ECC auction on May 2nd so, we will see you there!

I don't know how I managed to miss out on meeting Li (Neo Prodigy) especially since I later found out I was two seats away from him at the same table...

I AM likely/probably going to attend the cca BBQ, and likely the meeting with Juan Miguel Artigas Azas.... I have a question about a pair of cichlids w/ fry (oddly enough they didn't appear to be in full color...or maybe one was I'm not sure this was 3 years ago no pics) I observed from a canoe in wetlands/lakes in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Ed, Welcome the Best Cichlid Club in the Whole Entire World!!!

Consequently, it was pretty cool meeting you at Saturday's CCA gathering and getting a chance to hang out afterward at the nearest pub.

Thanx for sharing your info on your fish.

It was good to meet you, bro. Glad you were able to come down to check out a meeting. I know it's a haul, but imagine that this won't be an isolated event. :)

It's good to meet another enthusiast into the best kind of fish.... another good guy.

Glad you could make it down Ed. Drinking beers and talking fish after the meeting was a blast! Hopefully we'll see more of you around. Probably see you at TFP next weekend and the Ecc auction in May.

Just to clarify for the record. Ed did not drink any beers at the pub. He drank soda. :)
